Dorothy
Erickson, 84,
Brookings, SD, formerly of
Pine City, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1996 at the
Brookings hospital.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1911 in St. Paul, the daughter of Edward, Sr. and Rose (Nietz)
Miller. In her early teens, she moved to
Pine City with her parents, sister and brother.
Dorothy married Edmund C. Erickson on Feb. 20, 1932. They made their home in Forest Lake, where Edmund was a
Minnesota State
Highway Patrolman. He held
Badge No. 1 until his retirement from service in April 1971.
For a short time, Dorothy and Edmund and their daughter, Donna, lived in
San Diego, CA while Edmund served with the United States
Navy during WWII. When he was sent overseas, Dorothy and Donna returned to their
Pine City home. Upon Edmund’s discharge from the
Navy in 1946, he resumed his position with the Sate Patrol and the
Erickson family continued to live in
Pine City. Edmund died in June 1980.
Dorothy was a good homemaker and a caregiver. She enjoyed cooking, canning, embroidery, crocheting and playing cards. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Pine City and active in the affairs of the church. In recent years, Dorothy made her home in
Brookins where she could be near her daughter. In August 1991 she became a resident of the White Care Center there.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and
Rolland Rue, Brookings; son, Thomas
Erickson, Sr. St. Paul; grandchildren, Sharie
Brees, Julie Stacken, Heather
Erickson, great grandsons, Cody and Kyle
Brees, Nathan and Ryan Stacken, brother, Edward
Miller, Brainerd; special niece, Darlene Jerome, St. Paul; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Edward, Sr. and Rose
Miller, her husband, Edmund, and her sister,
Virginia Carlson.
A service of celebration was held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Our redeemer Lutheran Church,
Pine City. The Rev. Jack
Koch officiated.
Organist was
Glenna Reierson and soloist Lori
RydbergBurial was in Birchwood Cemetery,
Pine City.
