In july 1873 James Monk hopped a train heading to Rochester under the agreement he would assist with operating the breaks. Due to an accident, he struck his head and was ejected off the train. When found he was unconscious and remained that way for a while. He was said to have severe head injuries. The papers state that his conditions improved some. I could not locate any more articles on him other than dead letters in 1874. There was no death notice in the papers that I could find.
