My Dad is a Vogel and most of his family lived in Hosmer South Dakota before moving to Canada. I believe the people mentioned are the grandparents or great grandparents of my Dad. I too heard the stories about the family assuming the name of Vogel. Have not been able to verify this. Who were your parents/grandparents??

In 1885 MN census Ole M. Thompson family lists wife Fredericka and following children: Christina Anderson 14/F, born in Minn., John T. Anderson 10/M, born in Minn., Ole F. Anderson 6/M, born in Minn., Christopher C. Thompson 1/M born in Minn. Also listed was Mary Olson 72/F born in Norway.
Mary Olsen, listed as age 72 in 1885 census may have been the mother of Frederica A. Thompson. Fredericka was married to Ole Anderson first and then to Ole M. Thompson. I'm trying to find Fredericka's maiden name which I suspect is OLSON. Death certificate for Fredericka did not list parents. This family lived in the Union Grove area of Meeker County.
Any help in finding obits or burial info greatly appreciated.
Bob Heck
Wisconsin

I found your post about research on the Huchton, Bremhorst, Rehpohl and Strothman families. My husband is a Rehpohl - GGrandson of Otto and Anna Maria Rehpohl. They immigrated from "Prussia" in 1865 to NY and eventually to Missouri. I'm trying to find a link to the Ernst and Franceska Rehpohl family who came to the US through New Orleans in 1842; apparently with the other families you mentioned. There are very few Rehpohl people in the US now and as far as I can tell, all from Otto and Anna Maria's families. Do you have any information that could help me?
Hello Ron,

Family lore had it that "a US senator" is a relative. We have now ruled out Eugene, but that still leaves the senator from Wisconsin, the more infamous one.

Any ides on tracking him down?

Philip

Hello Ron,
Thanks for the offer.
The historical society near his home town has already given me the answer. The senator's father was Michael, born at the same place. Michael's father was also Michael born in Canada in 1823 of Irish immigrants.

The dates would seem to verify that the senator is not a relation.
Kind regards
Philip

The Senator is reported to have been born in Watkins, County Meeker in 1916, son of Michael McCarthy and Anna Baden.

I am seeking details of the Senator's father, Michael, supposedly a postmaster with some connection to cattle..
Who was Michael's father, mother and when and how did they arrive in the US?

I am researching the McCarthy line from James McCarthy and Catherine Gaffney in Co West Meath in Ireland, and family lore has it that the senator is descended.

Is there any geneological info available?
Philip in Sydney Au
