I am seeking details of the Senator's father, Michael, supposedly a postmaster with some connection to cattle..
Who was Michael's father, mother and when and how did they arrive in the US?

I am researching the McCarthy line from James McCarthy and Catherine Gaffney in Co West Meath in Ireland, and family lore has it that the senator is descended.

Thanks for the offer.
The historical society near his home town has already given me the answer. The senator's father was Michael, born at the same place. Michael's father was also Michael born in Canada in 1823 of Irish immigrants.

The dates would seem to verify that the senator is not a relation.

Hello Ron,

Family lore had it that "a US senator" is a relative. We have now ruled out Eugene, but that still leaves the senator from Wisconsin, the more infamous one.

Any ides on tracking him down?
