You mention the name BORK. I'm wondering what information you have on that surname in McLeod County. I am particularly researching Wilhelmina BORK, b 1843, Labes, Pommern, Germany, daughter of Carl Bork. Wilhelmina at least resided in McLeod County and married in 1867 to William Zieske. Thanks for any further information on them or related persons. All the best, Ken Neumann

To search the castle garden website go to:

www.castlegarden.org (not .com)

And you'll find the search engine there, which is better than most search engines you will find on these types of sites. Be sure to use the wildcard (*) to help you find all possible combinations or variations of the surname that you are searching.

And if you're fortunate enough to find your people on a given ship, copy/paste the ship name and do another search on all the people who came on that ship for that given date (using the wildcard * for the first and last names), as you might find some other relatives or friends on the same voyage.

Word to the wise: you might even find a misspelling of ship names in the castle garden records you find, as that was the case for the castle garden record of the ship's name upon which my family arrived. With a correct spelling of your ship's name you can do a google image search and might get lucky and find a picture of your ship.

Good luck--

Tony

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to say that I see how we could be related but right now I don't see it. I did try to see the Cunninghams in your tree but there were none? I viewed the only public tree I could see listed on your profile page. My Cunningham immigrant relative was Patrick. He was born in Ireland 1835-37. Moved to England, then New Jersey, Mass., PA, and finally Minnesota. Let me view a tree with your Cunninghams in it or keep in touch in case you haven't done enough research to see a closer connection. Patrick married Anne/Anna Malley in PA, had 3 children there and then moved to Helen, Minnesota 1876. They had 5 more children in McLeod county and died Glencoe MN 1911 & 1918.

Hi, I have nothing to say about the lookups in the book, but I saw your message and wanted to point out that I also have the Cunningham name in my tree for McLeod County....perhaps there's a connection somewhere? I really do not have much research done on them yet, but I can tell you that I have a Margaret Cunningham (born in Ireland) who married a Patrick Cafferty (also born in Ireland) and had 4 children (Thomas b.1818, Patrick b.1825, Brian b. 1828, and Bridget b.1835). Please let me know if you think you might be connected! Or maybe we've already talked about it - I haven't looked at my genealogy research in a long time - so if that's the case, please forgive me :)

I have seen several letters which Tex wrote to my father and relatives in Luling and San Antonio, most were written in Spanish.

James N Windham out of Houston has good information,he is a decedant of George Mcleod.
My name is Edward S.
From what I recall from my last contact with Jim Windham, he has a copy of the late John Hall's manuscript. I believe that he wanted to get it privately published. Another contact was working on a book about one of his relatives who was a contemporary of Tex McLeod. He then got interested in Tex and was gathering information for a book about Tex. He also had John Hall's manuscript. Jim Windham has done extensive genealogy study. My interest has been mostly on Tex McLeod's life and not so much on family genealogy, but I will gladly provide what details I have accumulated. There is also an American writer living in Italy who is working on a project relating to the European interest in the American West. She visited with me about two years ago to get information on Tex McLeod. I prefer to exchange information by direct e-mail rather than on the message board because of the extensive volume involved. My e-mail address is: fragar@swbell.net

(born 1870) She died in 1949 San Antonio. I am not sure where. I have other information if you like. From other family members, she taught Tex how to use a rope.

Regards
Rose Anne Beaupre McLeod

Researching a John SOMMERVILLE, his first wife Janet qnd a Doar Sophia ZOBLER.John and Janet originated in Scotland and show up on the 1850 census in Oconomowoc, Waukesha, Wisconsin. Their first few children though show NY as their birth place before moving to Wisc. The 1860 census still shows them in the same place. The 1870 census John married to a Sophia and living in Bergen, McLeod, Minnesota. The ages of some of the children alog with Sophia's ( 33 in 1870) lead me to think that maybe Sophia was married before as was John. Not sure when or where they got married though. John was in th 1st Reg Wisc cavalry during the civil war though. Some other documentation on Sophia lists her as Dora S ZOBLER. ensus say she was born in Prussia. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Trying to trackdown information on John SOMMERVILLE ( the last names has been on various paperwork all four ways) and his second wife Dora ( coul be Dorathea or Dorthea) Sophia ZABLE (also seen as ZABEL and ZOBLER). John and his first wife, Janet, and 5 children are found in Oconomowoc, Waukesha, Wisconsin. He is listed as Jno Somerville in the census. The 1860 federal census shows them still in the same place,Oconomowoc, Waukesha, Wisconsin. The 1870 fedeeral census shows a different picture of him. He is now in Bergen, McLeod, Minnesota, married to Sophia with some of the first children along with children of the second wife.Looking at the kids ages, suspect he moved in about 1864 or 1865. The 1850 census says the children were born in New York state, so John and fa,ily lived in Wisconnsin from about 1847 till abt 1865. WEould love to find out about his earlier life.

Thanks

Bob

Thank you so very much for your assistance. I am in hopes this is the right fellow, I am going on the assumption that two sisters married two brothers. How ever the maiden name for this gent is not the same as the other but still worth a try. I do thank you very much! Dick

I have one picture of Isabella and Fred, none of John. Are you a Krulikosky? My grandfather is Gordon Bonine. Do you know if Vincent Bonine is from Germany? I'm also wondering about John's siblings, so far I know he had brothers Frank, August, and Anthony (according to Florence Scharmer). I think there might have been others though.

Yes I am Leonard Krulikoskys and Harriet Bonine's Daughter. Vincent was born in Germany( Prussia). His wife's name is Mary. He was a blacksmith. Their children were Regina born in Germany . Vincent died of a bowel obstruction and is buried in Stewart, Mn. Frank,Mary and Anna were born in New York after they immigrated. They moved to Illinois. Then to Birch Coolie,Mn Where August was born. Then they bought 120 acres in Grafton Township where Elizabeth, Emma,John(my Grandfather),Martha, Anton, and Archer were born. Mary left the farm after Vincent died. Archer died as a child. I would love to have a picture of Fred. I have pictures of Mary and John and siblings. I tried writing to Florence but got no response. I found out by Internet that my Aunt Gerry had died in a car wreck. I have done most of this research myself. Bonine is sometimes spelled Bonin. Janicke is spelled Jeneke,Jannicke, and Janicke. So who are your parents. Gordon was married to Jeanie. I think there was a daughter Laura that was not one of Jeanie's children. I remember a Holly, Paul, Scott and there was more but right know I can't remember. I have a farm in Tennessee. I adored my Grandparents Isabelle and Fred. I have a dog named Shep after my Grandfather's dog. I have been working on this for about 3 years off and on. I have found other relatives who are descendants of John Bonnies Family. I don't know what John died of but I think Hennepin is listed as death place. I don't know where he is buried.
I am new to this thread by a few years, but I have been trying to find out about "this side" of my family for a few years now. My mother was Vivian Bonine, Clarence and Alex's sister. I just made a rather large discovery that I thought you might be interested in. Castle Garden is the location immigrants came into before Ellis Island. There is a non-profit group that is going through all the old records and making a searchable database. I just did a search for the name Bonin and up came three names that I recognized. Winzenz, Maria, and Regina Bonin from Germany. Winzenz is the German spelling for Vincent, and Maria is obviously the German spelling for Mary. They came on the ship Columbus on May 10, 1873 from Bremen, Germany. I remember my mom telling me that Regina was born right before they made the trip, so the fact that she is listed as 11 months old makes perfect sense. I believe this is the entrance record for our great-grand parents.

I'm checking into the possibility that your Mathias is the son of Mathias Parson - family settled in Lauramie Twp., Tippecanoe County, IN in the 1820s. Mathias had a son, Mathias, who may have received a land grant for property in Fountain Co, IN - I found a marriage record for Mathias Parson and Jemina Penwell, Fountain Co, IN, 12-19-1833.

Please feel free to email me.

George Frantz
Lafayette, IN
gwfrantz@hotmail.com
