August Boller - Friederike Garske

I'd like to know if there is any information about this family. They married in Wisconsin, and are listed in the 1880 census at Name: August Boller
Event Type: Census
Event Date: 1880
Event Place: Acoma, McLeod, Minnesota, United States
Gender: Male
Age: 39
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Farmer
Race (Original):
Ethnicity: American
Relationship to Head of Household: Self
Birthplace: Germany
Birth Date: 1841
Spouse's Name: Friederika Boller
Spouse's Birthplace: Germany
Father's Name:
Father's Birthplace: Germany

I believe that Friederika was a sister or cousin of my great grandfather, Carl Garske. I see at Find-a-Grave that she must have passed away before 1885 or so, because August Boller remarried and is buried at Acoma.

Is it at all possible to find any other Garske people in older documentation, or anything at all about Friederike?

I do see that she had a brother August on that 1880 census. ..
I am doing research on my grandmother (now deceased). First I'm looking for anyone who knew her or her sisters but also more about the First National Bank of Hutchinson that was located in Hutchinson and I believe headquartered in St Paul. (Not the one in existence now and based in Nebraska). Grandma Dorothy retired after 50+ years as the Vice President. I would love to get a corporate history or find out where any records/stories from the bank are located and specifically those with my grandmother mentioned. I've struck out at Wells Fargo, the last to purchase the bank facilities.

I am wondering where you got the information on Wilhelm Rettmann (married to Henrietta Bonness). I ahve been trying to find his parents for some time. He was probably born around 1830 and the siblings you have listed were born about 100 years before that.
Also, the children of Wilhelm and Henrietta should include Albert (my great-grandfather) who was born in 1879 and died in 1920 in Milwaukee.
Mike and Annie, who you have listed as children of Wilhelm and Henrietta, are actually the children of Charles (1867-1928)and Martha Mazel.

My Wilhelmine BORK was the daughter of Carl BORK, as I mentioned, but additional information is that she was known to have 3 siblings who also immigrated to McLeod County-- Augusta, b 1831, married John Christian HARTWIG, Friederica BORK, b 1834, married Friedrich Wilhelm NASS, and some unknown brother who emigrated with Wilhelmine and her parents (Carl BORK and Friederike).
Is it possible the unknown brother was the William BORK you mentioned? Thanks for any further replies. All the best,
Ken Neumann

The Wilhemina I have in my files is Wilhelmina Banke, married to William Bork. Wilhelmina's brother Hermann Wilhelm Banke Sr is my great great grandfather. I only have back one more generation from that group, Herman Banke and Mary Papenfus. I have been searching for a long time for their ancestors with no luck.

The marriage and birth dates are similar, but I think we may have different Wilhelmina Bork's?

The early newspaper items come from the Winona Newspaper Project, part of a university newspaper archive project available free on the internet (do a Google search).

The name Tex McLeod, various spellings for both first and last names, comes up blank for all records I can find online.

We know he served in WW1, especially according to the 1918 newspaper account of his being injured. BUT, he is not in the WW1 draft registration cards, at least as far as I can see. Did he enlist before the draft? That needs to be discovered.

ALSO, I do not find the marriage certificate for Tex or his wife Amy Belle. The Minnesota marriage certificate records do not include Goodhue County before 1933. Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate? If not, can you contact the Goodhue County recorder / courthouse to try to find a record? That might give a birth date or place.

What info is included in his death certificate? I didn't find an online obituary.

What is his son Tex' middle name?

Beth
not related

I see your frustration with trying to trace the parentage of "Tex" McLeod. There was a famous trick-rope cowboy by that name in the 1910s and 1920s, and I wonder whether this was a nickname 'your' Tex McLeod adopted.

We know Tex and Belle lived in southeast Minnesota. I checked Winona, Minnesota newspapers:

November 1, 1918
WOUNDED SLIGHTLY
Privates
Tex McLeod, Kenyon, Minnesota

April 26, 1933
TWO WHO ROBBED MAZEPPA CREAMERY ASK FOR RELEASE
Tex McLeod of Wabasha and John H. Pribble were asking to have their terms of up to five years in prison revoked. Pribble "pleaded guilty Aug. 28, 1932, in Wabasha county."

An August 2, 1933 article:
"Tex McLeod, pleaded guilty in 1932 in Wabasha county to stealing six tubs of butter from a mazepps creamery and sentenced to a nothing to five-year term in prison, reduced to two years."

We now know that Tex was listed as being from Kenyon, Goodhue County, MN, when he was injured during WW1 in 1918.

Can you add anything at all to help in the search? Names of his siblings?

I see you have him in the 1920 census in Minnesota, but nothing before that, although you have the name of John, born in Scotland, for his father and Mary, born in Scotland for his mother.

The 1920 census lists his parents' birth places as Florida, and in the 1930 census as "United States". Why do you think they were born in Scotland? How do you know their names? Do you have Tex' death certificate? Do you have an obituary?

The U.S. Veterans Gravesites database gives his birth date as August 15, 1897, service start date: 13 July 1917, death: 11 May 1960.

Do you subscribed to Ancestry.com? I don't find him in the WW1 draft registration. You may have better luck searching through the index.

What is his middle name? If he doesn't have one, does his son Tex have a middle name?

Beth
not related

I have a copy of "Mcleod County History Book 1978" by the Mcleod County Historical Society. Starting on page 160 there is a chapter on Penn Township which includes "A brief History of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Penn Township". In this article it says:

"...in 1877, Pastor Henry Ahlbrecht was called to serve St. Matthew's. Not only did Rev. Ahlbrecht serve this congregation well, he founded congregations in Moltke and Wellington Townships, Sibley County. He also served the church in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, another daughter congregation.
Pastor Ahlbrecht left after two years...."

Thanks for your response. The location that you gave is the same as what I was looking at. The actual street address is 16104 20th Street, which is near O'Day Avenue. The church was located there on the 1914 plat map of Penn Township and was the only church that I could find in the township on that map. I am almost certain that it is the same church. I found histories of two other churches that Rev. Henry Albrecht served in the area and they both said that he lived in New Auburn, which would be very close to the location of this church. New Auburn may also been his mailing address if he lived near the church.

I was hoping that someone in the area would have a history of this church so I could verify that Rev. Albrecht was the Pastor there. I will contact the county historical society to see if they have any information.

Thanks

Local experts are the local historical society.
http://www.mcleodhistory.org
It does not show up as a lost town.
http://www.mcleodhistory.org/the-lost-towns-of-mcleod-county

I could see no evidence of a 20th and Oday on a modern map for McLeod County, MN. St Matthews Lutheran Church is still active and in the SE corner of section 28 in Penn township, McLeod County, Minnesota. Google Earth has an icon for its location.

I did not find Penn Town Lutheran listing here.
http://mngs.org/mcleod.htm

I have a feeling that you will need to look at the original land records back in 1876 for Penn township. The original name of a congregation would usually change.

Rev. Henry Albrecht was Pastor of the Penn Town Lutheran Congregation (Minnesota Synod)in McLeod County from 1876 to 1880. Does anyone have a history of this congregation? St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Penn is located in Penn Township, McLeod County is located at 20th and Oday. Is this where the Penn Town Church was located?
Thanks

You might want to access www.findagrave.com
Do a search for St. Peter's Luthean Cemetery, McLeod Co. MN.
I've transcribed the entire cemetery last summer. . .& that 'Stolp' sur name sounds familiar. And, for the life of me I can't place my memory any where else except at that cemetery.

Thank you so much for this information. My Father Harvey Joseph is a grandson to Arthur Stolp who had one son Harrison August Stolp who married Apollonia Margaret Neumann. We have been looking for relatives as my father has lost touch with many from the Stolp side.

You may reply to duckie553@yahoo.com with any more information.

Linda (Stolp) Henderson

I'm finding the name spelled Kruckman. It looks like these people currently live in the Glencoe area. I would start looking there. Maybe you could contact them directly if they are family.

Have you contacted the local library to see if they could do a quick search through the newspapers around those times for any kind of wedding announcement? Or the local historical society (Hutchinson)? I'm originally from that area and I know that the people who work at these places are very helpful. Also, you can order copies of marriage certificates online and many times they contain more information. I found a great site for Minnesota marriage certificates http://www.mncounty.com you can order copies right online from there.

I do get back there myself during library hours occasionally so I'll keep you in mind the next time I'm doing some newspaper searches.

I am looking for any information, especially pictures, of the family of Cleophas and Katie DeGree. The family lived mainly in Stewart, MN. Cleophas died very young of a heart attack and left Katie to raise 10 children. He was a veterinarian. His son Otis and Alvina lived in Stewart for many years. Their daughters, Margaret Reimers and Evelyn Bethke worked at the post office.
