I am looking for the death date of Hans Tobias Hogenson. He was born in May 1861 in Norway and immigrated in 1873. His wife was Anna Caroline. He was in the 1900 census in Cedar Township, Marshall, MN. His children were Fred, Theo, Emma, Hilda, Ida and Erwin. Thank you for any help.

I searched several sources I am aware of:

The Minnesota Historical Society's death index is found at:

http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm

If you type in Hans, you receive no results. There is a Tobias, though, who died 20 Mar 1932 in Olmstead County MN. It is possible, that the family remained in Marshall County, as it appears several of the children died in Polk county.

There are situations where although the person lived in Minnesota, they died in North Dakota (usually at a hospital there). The link below will bring you to that search board. Although several Hogenson's are listed, I didn't find Hans' death listed in North Dakota

https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/doh/certificates/deathCertSe...

I next went to www.pvillage.com, the web page for the Pennington Historical Society. This web page includes information for Pennington and surrounding counties....including Marshall and Polk counties in Minnesota. I entered the Hogenson family name. I found a Hans J Hogenson, having land in section 11 Garden township (147/43) Polk county in 1896. I also found death and burial information for what appear several of Hans' children. They mostly were buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

I also checked out a 1909 Marshall County Plat map for Cedar Township on the www.pvillage.com site. I did not find land owned by the Hogenson family recorded...so they possibly moved (or, were renting land).

Hope this helps!

I found a descendant of Hans Tobias Hogenson. He died in 1938 in Spalding, Saskatchewan, Canada. Some of his 9 children also died in Sask, Canada. Maybe he was living with them after retiring from farming because he did have a homestead patent in Polk County.
Thanks again for your help.

Glad you found your Hans Hogenson! Quite a few children of settlers in our area went to SK and Manitoba and settled there. Sounds like some of the Hogensons did that.

As stated later in this thread, he moved to Spalding, Saskatchewan. His daughter Ida was married to my great-grandfather's brother, and another daughter Emma was married to another relative of mine. None of his children are still living, but there are grandchildren.
