I have all the information you need for Samuel Lee as My GG Grandfather was his brother Ole. I grew up in White Earth ND. - I know this was posted 7 years ago, but maybe you might get notified. I have tried to find my relatives from Canada for YEARS and you are right there!
But I can't get a hold of you! :)

Dan Lee

Olof Anderson's first wife and the mother of LeRoy and Russell was Agnes Nelson. In the state census of 1905 Agnes is a child of Otto and Augusta Nelson of Macsville Township, Grant Co. There is a Mrs. Otto Nelson who died in 1914 and is buried in Grant Co. I am thinking this is the same Agnes, but have not proved it yet. Agnes died in 1918 and in 1933 Olof's married again to Nellie Nelson King (widow of Alfred King). Olof's brother is Nels Martin Anderson and his wife is Hilma. It doesn't appear they had children. He was the proprieter of an implement store in Elbow Lake after 1930. He died in 1986 and his mother's maiden name, Olof's too, was Nelson/Nilson. I have been unable to locate LeRoy after the 1920 census. I have found an E. Leroy Anderson. Russell's middle name is Erhard, is it possible LeRoy's was LeRoy Erwin and He changed it to E.LeRoy as Erwin Leroy Anderson? See below
Name:	Erwin Leroy Anderson
Birth Date:	24 May 1911
Death Date:	28 Mar 1981
Death County:	Hennepin
Mother's Maiden Name:	Nelson

Nels Martin Anderson listed Horby, Skone Sweden as his birthplace. Does anyone have any further information on this Anderson Nelson family.

I was in Norway last summer and saw the farm in Heidal from where Frans Hanson emigrated.

Carl Harstad is her descendant and has done extensive work on the genealogy.
email me and I can probably get you in contact with him.
flolid@msn.com

There might be church records for her, and the Grant County historical society would be the place to contact for information. It is in Elbow Lake at the Museum.

I won't be able to identify any of the pictures, but I think I can get you in touch with a member or two of the Boerner Family from Grant County. I have a message to a contact of mine, so I will circle back when I hear back.

If you haven't already checked it out, www.findagrave.com has some records for grave sites and sometimes has photos. I just searched on the Boerner's in Grant County and there are a few that have photos.

There is also a Boerner Family cemetary that was in the local news recently. Just do a search on Boerner Family Cemetary, Grant County Minnesota. Here is a link to one article that was written. It's been in most of the regional papers and is still under investigation.

http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_22357094/minnesota-pi...
Thanks Brian for your reply. Sadly I got no reply here, but I have connected with children of Frederik and Christina on Facebook! It has been great! I have found pictures in the old trunk to be the Knops, Koentophs, the Kriedlers, Huesemans, McCollars, Leathermans, Dickows, Ziebarth, and I still have many unidentified people I'd love to share these pictures with their descendants! I've attached one of them, so someone may recognize an ancestor! Please take a look!
Grace

RE: Henry Ritzschke; was there a newspaper mention of his death? I have found that my ancestors from that time period that passed away often had the name of the cemetery included in their death notice. There is always a possibility that Henry is buried in the Boerner Family Cemetery, as there were others buried there in the 1880's: Known names: Marth, Leatherman, Boerner. Also, what section in the township did Henry live in at the time of his death? In the spring of 2013, the Sheriff and state archaeologist will be doing an excavation at the Boerner site to locate graves. We believe there are up to twelve graves (could be more) there, seven are identified.

My youngest son and i were looking for the first Ritzschke that move to Grant Co. Ritzschke is my wife's maiden name. The Elbow Lake Courthouse had this cemetery listed and i wanted to check it out to see if he could find Henry Ritzschke's grave site. The cemetery was located out in the field about a 1/2 mile from the road. After walking out there we found that no Ritzschke's were buried out there. There was a few headstones and they were very old.

Hello, this family cemetery that you and your son walked out to is where my 2nd Great Grandparents are buried (Frederick & Christine Boerner). Would you be willing to post a little summary of what you experienced at the site? Were you able to take any photographs? I visited the site for the first time years ago and the visit really had an impact on me---I found the site to be very peaceful. The cemetery was leveled around mid-November and there is an open case with the Grant County Sheriff's Department. Our family is hoping to get the site restored in the Spring of 2013. Thank you for visiting the site, I hope you can tell about your journey there.

http://www.fergusfallsjournal.com/2012/12/10/cemetery-vandal...

A private family cemetery near Herman was allegedly vandalized recently, and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the excavating of several grave markers that had been buried in a hole at the site.

On Nov. 20, the Sheriff’s Office received reports that trees and headstones had been pushed into a hole and buried in the cemetery.

A search warrant was executed the following day and it was found that trees had been removed and several pieces of grave markers were found on top of the ground.

On Nov. 29, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office executed another search warrant to excavate a hole where possible evidence was buried. The excavation process took two days, and when the digging was finished the hole was 40 feet wide, 80 feet long and 15 feet deep.

The dig revealed several grave markers bearing the names of family members buried at the location. No human bones were found, and the Sheriff’s Office reportedly hopes no graves were disturbed in the process.

A state archeologist will look at the site in the spring to attempt to find the exact location of the graves. The markers recovered have been kept for evidence, and the case will be sent to the Grant County Attorney’s Office.

The last burial at the cemetery occurred in 1892.

There is a story about your Flaglien ancestors at this website:

http://www.undernorefjell.com/Norefjell1986/Norefjell1986-2/...

The old grizzled guy in the photo halfway down the page is Gudbrand Olsen Flaglien, Truls' father.

FLAGLISLEKTA
Gudbrand og Gunhild Flaglien
Gamle dagers fortellerevne

Flaglien'.

FLAGLI RELATIVES
Gudbrand and Gunhild Flaglien
Olden days stories

Editor Anders Mehlum wrote in "NU" which came out 15 December 1908, on the "Farmer Gudbrand Flaglien".

The genealogy will not be discussed here, itis found in Andreas Mørchs books about Sigdal/Eggedal and Krødsherad. (in Buskerud county, Norway).
Gudbrand Olsen Flaglien was born at Møllerstua (miller's cottage) at Bjøre in 1842, and he lived there until about 1870, when he moved to Flaglien/Flaglia.

Gudbrand's father, Ole Gulbrandsen, originally from Skartum tenant farm, in Sigdal, also lived at Flaglia until he married for a second time with the widow Ragne Larsdatter Skjessa, and moved to Møllerstua, or Mjølnarstua (miller's cottage) as they called it.

Gunhild Knutsdatter blei konfirmert i Krødsherad. Hun bodde da hos sin tante Marte Pedersdtr. Leir.

Gunhild Knutsdatter (Gudbrand's wife) was confirmed in Krødsherad. She lived at her Aunt Marte Pedersdatter Leir's. Gunhild had to walk the long way to Lier? Leir? in order to fetch her school recods.
She was also living with her relatives at Leir when she began to be together with Gulbrand.

It was not totally good in the relatives opinion, that Gunhild was together with the "Mjølnar gutten" (the flour mill boy). When she had been out and come home in the evening, they would brush off her back and say "You have flour on your back, Gunhild". (to taunt her)

- Ho bestemor va'kje så lite overtruisk, ja, ho hadde litt a're ho mor au.
Ho lot aldri noen gå att uten å ha fått noko å eta. Ellers kunne 're bli lite me' mat hoss døm. (Arvid Dahlen 1986)

Then there are two comments about her:
She (grandmother) was a little superstitious. (like her mother?)
She (Gunhild) never let anyone go, without giving them something to eat. Otherwise there probably would have been a little more food at her house.

I found a plat map of Grant county from 1916, and I'm guessing the unnamed cemetery in section 7 would be your best bet. Section 18, which is just south of Section 7 has a parcel of land in the name of Anna Ritzchke. I will see if I can find anything else for you!

No, not related just another Norwegian! It helps that the archives have been putting records online. Your relatives in Norway may find it a little easier to read the records, as my Norwegian is a little elementary! You can find the records at http://www.arkivverket.no/eng/content/view/full/629
I find it easiest to search in the baptism and marriage records at familysearch first so I have an idea of what Parish to search.

It is confusing due to the use of Patrynymics and farm names. It helps that the records have place of birth in them, to help sort things out. This appears to be the baptism of Truls father, Gulbrand Olsen. Note that it says his Mother is from Bjore, which is given as his place of birth in his marriage record
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?show=54&uid=136745...

This appears to be Gunhild Knudsdatter
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?show=46&uid=136810...

Family in 1900 census
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&am...

This is great info, this has to be Truls. I have his father as Gulbrad Olsen Flaglien and his mother as Gunhild Knudsen Knutsdatter Sovern. The older generation in Norway gets very confusing when trying to find someone.
Here is the baptism for Truls. If you scroll to the right from his name, you will find his parents. In the column on the far right, sponsors are listed. One of them appears to have the surname (farm name) Flaglien
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?uid=117358&urnread...

Marriage for his parents
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NW7B-MSL

And here it is from Norwegian archives
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?show=223&uid=11737...

I don't know what information you have from Norway. This looks like it may be him, from the baptism index at
www.familysearch.org I notice that the 1900 census has your Truls birth month as May

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NWPQ-QB5

It's possible that the Flaglien name was taken from where Gulbrand was born. I can tell you how to find more information from Norway if you don't have it yet.

My Great Grandfather is Truls Flaglien Bjore, I'm looking for stories of his immigration to Grant County from Norway and what life was like. Truls Bjore was the son of Gulbrand and Gunhild Flaglien. Truls Bjore took the name when he was set up as a farm hand on the farm of Bjore Krødsherad when he was about years 8 old. He was No. 4 of the 14 children Gulbrand and Gunhild Flaglien had together. In 1893 he moved to America when he was 21 years old and married Gurine Baasen (1872-1930) They had 9 children together.

Taryn,

That Albert Vik was a good suggestion. To check out this family I looked for them in the 1900 Census. The family (as Vig) is still in the same location, and Mabel Vig is still there, so it does not fit since my Mabel Vik is with the Brevig family in 1900(and born in 1893).

I also saw the Andreas Vik in Pope Co. (1895), but I do not see any way to connect him to Brevigs.

Yes, it is a tough one. I contacted the Otter Tail Co. Historical Society several years ago when doing my maternal ancestors who lived near Pelican Rapids, and I received good help, so I will see what they can find.
Thanks again.
Jon

I looked at this Mable Vik earlier on the 1895 census, 1 month old. Otter Tail County. But the father is Albert Vik, and the mother looks like Olene Vik.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MQ6F-1SQ

There is also an Andreas Vik in Pope County in 1895.
Taryn,
Wow. You deserve a "Random Acts of Kindness" award. Thanks for your effort. You have given me some good leads. I think I will start work next week on trying to determine what church Peder & Oline attended so that I can check into your suggestion about possible baptism and confirmation records of Mabel Vik. I will check their obits again (MN History Center Library) to see what church/cemetery is mentioned. I may also check and see what churches are near Battle Lake, Otter Tail Co., which was given as the place of birth on Mabel (Vik) Storeygard's death certificate. I am not 100% confident that MN is her place of birth since Dakota, ND, SD also come up, and who knows if the person giving the death certificate info had it right. When Mabel was 16/17,(1910)she ssid SD, but in 1920 (Fargo)and 1930 (Hennipin Com) she said MN. I am quite certain it is the same person. Maybe she didn't really know, and /or maybe Peder & Oline Brevig were not given accurate info. One thing that is consistent in all census records is the birth place of her parents: father-Norway; mother-Sweden. I am surprised with that consistency, since I have found that such info is likely to be more mixed up than the place of birth.
Jon

another sugggestion, North Dakota has their Naturalization records so that you can search the names on line, and then send for the Naturalization papers.

http://library.ndsu.edu/db/naturalization/

Vik Andreas Andersen Norway 2nd July 06, 1912 Grand Forks F-33 035
Vik Andreas A Norway 1st November 2, 1896 Traill D-3 147

Maybe they could help you at the Red River Valley Genealogy Society?
