John Henry Leyh was my great grandfather. My grandfather was Carl Henry Leyh, son of JOhn Henry and Louisa Augusta Marhenke. My mother was Gladys Leyh, daughter of Carl Henry(known as Henry) and Gertrude Brugger. I would love any information you can share and in particular am looking for information on John Henry and Frederick's father. I'm told his name was Henry... that's all I know. John Henry and Frederick had a sister named Annie and I'm told another sister whose information I don't have.

Thank you so much for that information on my step-ggrandfather. He was married to my ggrandmother Eva Ridenbaugh. They lived for a time in St. Joseph Missouri in 1920 and moved to Minnesota around 1928. The family lost track of her and Ramon around that time and never found out what happened to them or where they moved to.

Do you have a copy of his death certificate? He died in Hennepin County. The death certificate identifier is certid# 1955-MN-019558 if you don't have it. Copies can be obtained at the Minnesota State Historical Society. That will give you his residence at the time of his death. That, in turn, will tell you where to look for the obit. Sometimes people are buried in family plots not close to where they are living. Just a suggestion.

C

Looking for Lost Siblings of Thora Marie (Karlsen) Olsen In Norway

My great-grandmother Thora Marie (Karlsen) Olsen was born 24 March 1897 in Kristiania (Oslo) Norway. She was one of six children who were born to Anton Bernhard and Milla Annette(Thoreson) Karlsen. Anton was born in Naesodden, Norway 1856. Milla was born in Nes Akershus County, in 1870. They were married in Nes Akershus County 8 August 1886 in Drobak, Akershus County, Norway. My great-randmother Thora Marie (Karlsen) Olsen was christened in Uranaien Borg Church, Kristiania on 2 April 1897 on the 1900 Norwegian census she is living in Sorligaden with her parents and her siblings. She is confimed in Nes Akershus County on 6 Oct 1912, she is 15 years old, and she is living at Sjoli Farm in Akershus County, Thorvald Sjoli is her gaurdian. She immigrated to the United States three years later, boarding the SS Kristianiasfjord in Kristiania (Oslo) and after a brief stop in Bergen she left Norway on 8 Sept 1915 and arrived in New York on 18 Sept 1915. It is her siblings that I am now trying to track down. They are as follows:

Carl Karlsen (1886), in Drobak
Gunda Karlsen (1889), in Drobak
Bendikte Karlsen (1891), Drobak
Alf Karlsen (1894), Drobak
Lilli Karlsen (21 Aug 1899)Kristiania.

I have no idea what happened to them after my grandmother left Norway. I don't know if they all stayed there, came to the United States also, or if they went elsewhere, and there is no one for me to ask.

I think that it is important for people to realize that your cemetery listings are not necessarily complete. In other words, if there is no headstone, their relatives may still be buried in a cemetery. It is important to look for the written cemetery records.

I have two relatives in Pine Bend Cemetery. However, they are not in your transcrptions. The reason I know they are buried in Pine Bend Cemetery is because they are included in St. Luke's Episcopal Church Records with the place of burial being Pine Bend Cemetery.

ello,
I am researching my husband's ancestors and am wondering if the Hunter you mention is connected to my husband's since they lived in Olmsted and Goodhue counties for awhile before migrating to Oberon, ND.

Arnold or maybe Patrick Hunter born in Pennsylvania in 1828 was married to Caroline or Anna Sterling who was also born in Pennsylvania in 1831. They were in Olmsted township in 1860 and in Goodhue township in 1875 and 1880. Mrs. Hunter is buried in Pine Island, MN I think. Mr. Hunter may be buried in Oberon, ND.

Children born in PA were George W in 1848, Anna "Susan" in 1849 or 1850, and Flora in 1853. Children born in MN were Maria in 1854, Mary in 1856 or 1857, Ella in 1857, Henry in 1858, Sarah in 1859 and Walter in 1868.

George's wife was Charlotte and I think they lived in Wisconsin; Anna married Daniel L. Chance and lived in Oberon, ND; Maria married Thomas Kelly and lived in Oberon, ND; Mary married Kelly Knott and lived in Wisconsin I think; and Walter married Minnie Bell Tuttle and lived in Wisconsin.

Maria Hunter Kelly and Anna Hunter Chance had children that married and their descendants are my husband's line.

Thank you in advance.
Jo Berg
OH MY Lord, how exciting. Minnie was my great grandmother! Any other information you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. I have not done research in quite some time, but am not getting back at it.

Please respond so I can share what I have found so far. It would be wonderful if there were photos available of any of these family members.
There were a number of related Scottish families that settled near Northfield in the mid-1800s including the Law, Hunter, Lorimer, Carlaw and Coulhart/Coulter families (there may be more). Some of these families settled first in Ontario and then moved to Minnesota. I believe that John Hunter and Jane Ferguson married in Ontario. John's mother, Barbara Tweedie, was a sister of one of my ancestors Jane Tweedie Carlaw (mother of Isabella Carlaw Law).

The Corinthian Cemetary is located just outside of town. My mother is Connie (Case) Gerster, daughter of Humphrey.
I have much more information on Ziph Case, his father Phineas of Iowa if you are interested.
Don't know the first name of your ggf. Assuming that Catineau is the last name, I did a search on the MN Terretorial and State Census. I found a Joseph Cutineau, born in 1845 in Canada and a sibling, Paul, born in MN in 1849. At that time they were living in St. Paul.
If this is the correct individual, you may want to contact the FHL(Mormon Church)to see if they have a microfilm listing births in that time period.
Good luck.

My paternal gr-grandmother was Sophie Catineau dit Brindamour-Durand. Her parents were Antoine Catineau and Felicite Primeau. Sophie had a brother named Antoine. Sophie married Etienne Collette circa 1865 in PQ. There is a family legend that Sophie was a Metis. I have a photo taken from a tintype. I have little doubt that Sophie was First Nation. Let me know if this makes any sense to you.

Roland Lapointe

Two of the children that I mentioned in my previous post have been located.

Catherina Tabaka/Tobak/Tobacco married an unknown Shinski, supposedly in LaSalle, Illinois (according to old family history notes made from her nephew's recollections) though it may have really occurred in Wisconsin. She had two children, including Frank C Shinski, and later moved to Kansas. She is buried under the name Catherine Shinski-Yardzinski in the Wamego City Cemetery in Pottawatomie County, KS. Interestingly enough, this is where her brother Charles (originally Kasimir or Casimir) and his son Noah are buried.

Thomas Tabaka/Tobak/Tobacco changed his surname to Tabasinske, like his brother Michael, and moved to Iowa like his brother Michael and sister Mary. He married an Electa Jane Widener and had several children. He died in Cass County, IA in 1885 and is buried in the Victoria Cemetery, though his grave marker is no longer there.

Hi!
It was wonderful to find your reply posted! I would be happy to exchange information with you on this family. I am researching for my companion, Jim Summers. His great great grandfather, Daniel Nagle, your great grandfather, William Nagle Jr, brother. We visited Winona, MN two years ago. I have information on their parents.
I don't have much on Edwin but I do have a copy of his WW1 draft registration and a passenger list showing him returning to the USA in 1916.
Jim is your 3rd cousin, once removed! You can contact me at indafamilytree@gmail.com or your cousin at jsummers64@tm.net
Kathie

I have some pictures of my grand-uncle Paul Reed, who appears to be a train conductor of some sort. Also one of him in front a train with "Minneapolis St. Paul" at the top. He has a hat on in several pictures with the number 3104.

Any ideas what train line or where to research this further?

I have a picture of my grandmother, along with several of her friends, holding a large pennant (probably about 12 feet long) with the word "Muldners" on it. It also has Fridely scribbled as a note on the back.

Does anyone know what this might be? A school team?

My grandmother in the picture is Nellie (Collins) Reed
