Unfortunately, at this time I do not have any first names. However, My sister-in-law will be checking to see if they can find the abstract for the farm. So hopefully I will be able to post those soon.

We have two large pictures that were left behind when my husband's parents bought a farm in the late 50's. The farm was located on Government Road, southeast of Rush City, MN. It is believed previous owner's names were Lindstrom & Norris. One picture is of a couple & the other is of a man in an army uniform. These pictures are approximately 11x10 & were in large ornate oval frames with the bubble type of glass. Unfortunately the frames are long gone however the pictures are in good condition. We would love to reunite these pictures with any family members that would like them.

Like you I did not find a death record for her.

Her parents Anton Adolph Lindgren (1919-1990) married Sarah Mollie Richards 6/2/1946 in Itasca County, Minnesota (source: Minnesota Official Marriage System online). Ancestry.com says the daughter you seek was born in Chisago County, Minnesota.

When did Anton and Sarah move to Kodiak, Alaska? To Nevada? Do you know other locations where they lived? It could be their daughter continued to live near them in those new locations.

Ancestry says Anton died December 1990.

Like you, I don't see a death record for Anton and Sarah's daughter in Minnesota. (Minnesota Historical Society index)

A child who dies young is sometimes buried beside her grandparents.

1940
Lake Jessie, Itasca, Minnesota
Erlng Lindgren 48
M Anna Lindgren 51
Anton A Lindgren 20
Helen M Lindgren 16
Annie D Lindgren 13

No hits on Ancestry.com for Anton Lindgren in Kodiak, Alaska (US City directories are being added)

Someone (you I think) made a wonderful memorial on Find a Grave for this family. According to your information on Find a Grave, Anton Lindgren was called Tony Lindgren (this nickname might help volunteer researchers).
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Li...;

I hope you or a family member or a volunteer researcher can find the family members you seek.

The 1905 MN state census has someone who matches George:

1905 MN Ransey County, St. Paul, Ward 8
June 21 1149 Rice Street

HOLLEN [last letter written over, might be HOLLER], George, male, age 85, white.
Are you familiar with the volunteer-run genweb site for Chisago County?

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mnchisag/index.htm

I see they have several lookup volunteers. If George fought in the Civil War, he might be included in a book of almost 1,500 soldiers from Chisago County or who died in Chisago County.

Beth
not reltaed

Hello,

I've tracked my 3rd great grandfather George Holler (b, Sep 1820 in Ohio) and his wife Elizabeth (Smith) Holler to Amador Township in Chisago County. They were there in 1895 and 1900 for the Minnesota and US censuses. I suspect they died there.

Does anyone have any pointers to possible sources of information about deaths in the area between 1900 and 1905?

I've found the Chisago Historical Society burials entered onto Find a Grave, and I know about the Minnesota Historical Society death index. No dice either place. Are there any indexes on microfilm or whatnot that aren't online?

Philip

There is a lot of data to enter now with 13 Petersons. I live in Mpls. We are descendents of the Frykstroms from Cokato, Wright Co. so have no Peterson info.

I am a little confused, because on other sites you have Olaf Axel Edstrom associate with the person by that name in Marathon County, Wisconsin. There are several men by that name in the United States. The man in Wausau was born in 1841. I may be able to help you with some information on the Edstom family in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Ruth Ann, Olaf's wife, was born in 1837 in New Haven, Connecticut to John Gillette Sandford and Jane Curtis Sanford. On 25 October, 1857, Ruth Ann married Sylvester Coye in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. The only child who survived to adulthood, was Kitty Belle Coye, who married Arden PARONTO, son of Alred Paronto and Marie Emilie Treu Paronto on 4 September, 1902 in Mosinee, Marathon County, Wisconsin. Kitty and Arden never had children. Neither did Olaf and Ruth Ann...................
The following is a transcription of the marriage certificate for Olaf and Ruth Ann:
Marriage Record: Marathon County 9-9-36

Marriage Date: 31 March, 1883
Names: Olaf Axel Edstrom - Ruth Ann Coye
Birthplace: Baeke, Sweden - New Haven, Connecticut
Father's Name: Eric Olaf Edstrom - John G Sandford
Mother's Name: Christine M E Dotter - Jane M Sandford
Residence: Mosinee -
Witnesses: Frank McReynolds - Elvira M Brickley
Occupation: lumberman -

Additional Information:
Episcopal service took place at 20-8 o'clock p.m.
...........................................................
I have not been able to find a death certificate for Sylvester Coye in Marathon County yet, even though he is buried there.
If they lived near town, there's a small, 48-page booklet, "Looking Back Over One Hundred Years in Northern Chisago County" by Carl H. Sommer, first published in 1958, which includes a section on the history of the Rush City school.

"In 1880 a frame building was erected on the present site, with school commencing there in the winter of 1881. Lumber was cheap at that time and this two story building cost $3,000.00. It had three compartments with 163 pupils. V.D. Eddy was principal and Mrs. Nellie Martell Markham was primary teacher. After a few years it was changed to four compartments. The last few years included two years of high school.

In 1898 this building was moved to the site where the Village Water tank is located and was used as the Village Hall until 1910.

In 1898 the brick building, adjoining the High School now, was built and was considered the best school building between the cities [Minneapolis/St. Paul] and Duluth. Four years of High School were included in the studies.

It was not long before the building became too small to take care of the increasing number of pupils, so in 1910 it became necessary to rent outside rooms. The Methodist Church, German Lutheran Church and the Foresters Hall were used at different times."

Copies of the booklet are available for purchase from the North Chisago Historical Society.

There is a book about the history of Chisago County. In it, there is a chapter about the schools. My Gr. aunt taught terms in 1904, 1905 and 1910. If you are interested, I have the source and it can be located at the big family history center in Salt Lake City.

Chisago City was my mother's home town and we lived there 1946 through 1952 and attended high school there (class of 1950). In the class ahead of me there was a fellow named Rodney Hokanson. He should be about 82 years now if he is still alive. They lived about halfway between Chisago City and Wyoming where they farmed. His mother's first name was Emma. How do I remember that? My sense of trivial information reminds me that for a while the boys in his class began calling each other by their mothers' first names. So, Rodney became "Emma" and a cousin of mine named Robert Anderson became "Beatrice." The girls, one of whom was my cousin Joan Lindberg, did not appreciate this foolishness, but I can't help but remember.

I checked Earl Leaf's Swedes of Chisago County (2003 edition) and the only mention there is is of Mrs. Emma Hokanson of Harris, from the Rush City Post dated 31 March 1893: "Mrs. Emma Hokanson of Harris was adjudged insane and taken to St. Peter." My cousin and I found that many records of the old asylums are available at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul. If you live anywhere near or plan to visit, this is the place you are likely to find all sorts of information, but for asylum records phone or write ahead. It is also possible to hire a researcher if you can't visit, but I don't know the cost. See their web site: www.mnhs.org. We found my cousin's grandmother's records from the two asylums she was kept in, and they were very detailed.

There is one of an old farmhouse and another that is a temple or church, I havent looked at them for a while, but I believe they are dated '56
they are signed and have a written description by her.
I have attached the jpg's for both. Please contact me at stainedglassbydebbie@msn.com

This is a photo of a hunters picnic of people from Chisago County. Carl and his wife are in the photo. I would also think some of there family is also in the photo. I have many of these photo.

The guys would go hunting and then the picnics would follow. I believe they were part of the "Hunters Club" from Lindstrom (?)

As I have looked into the family tree book, your mom was pictured in the group photo shot for the Lendt gathering back on September 18,1977,and was in the fourth row of six on page 30 and Harvey was in row six. At the bottom of page 31 that makes mention of people in the group photo, Denise is mentioned and someone is holding either Patti or Eileen. Pictured next to Phyllis is daughter Adele.
The picture(s) would be great whatever you may have. I do not yet have a "Carl" listed yet on my tree,as I haven't begun to add generations of family going back in time with siblings and such. It has been a slow process adding branches to what I have for info. There are a few branches like that left on the tree I have. Brad

The website for marriages would be; www.mncounty.com/Modules/Certificates/Marriage/MarriageSearc... - the tree that my great aunt Mildred(my grandmother Helen's sister) that had done the family tree before she passed away in 1979 had lots of info, just not totally complete with dates of birth and marriages on portions of the tree. The website above has helped me with most of what I needed to find for marriages(though not 100% complete yet). I am interested to finding out the info you do have for birth and/or marriage dates with you and your siblings for the family tree at my end,as the tree did not include them. I do have a date of marriage for Phyllis and Harvey as 18 July 1964. My web address is bandbgabby@usfamily.net and you can send the info there. There are still some of the Lendt family members that are still around the Stacy and Wyoming areas, though as they age, less and less. Brad Gabrick

Brad - that would be great if you could post that website for MN marriages. I spoke with my mom, Phyllis, and she said there are Lendt's on her dad, Oramelle Moore's, side the family - once removed like you say. She said this part of the family was from around, Stacy, MN. Were you wanting more info from me regarding me and my siblings?
Hi,
I don't live in the local Chisago area, but I have accessed newspaper microfilm for Taylor's Falls in the late 19th century through inter-library loan. I recommend the Library of Congress website and their US Newspaper directory for reference information http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/.

I do have relatives who live near Chisago who may be able to help. I could relay your request to my cousin. Also if you're trying to get in touch with CCHC you may have better luck contacting the director Robert Chudek directly at robert.chudek@gmail.com

Also, I have a hunch that we're related to the same Martin family. I'd love to share information. I'm currently looking for ancestors of James Martin of Amador.

Best of luck to you,
Charlie

Here are the two names of Carls' wife's names and dates of marriage for Chisago County;

Lila Amelia Henrietta Anderson, marriage certificate issued for October 18,1919.

Alice Wallenberg, marriage certificate issued for October 25,1924.

A full name for Carl on the website for marriages lists Carl Waldemar Thoreen. If interested for the website, let me know and I will post it. It will be for Minnesota marriages.
Brad Gabrick

Just looked up how the relationship goes for the branch. For Phyllis,we would be a third cousin once removed. It would be that part of the tree I would have info on,just not the part of Harvey Thoreen. I also do not have info for birthdates for the kids listed and if they are married and possible kids either. Brad Gabrick

Wow - thank you so much. This solves a "hole" in our family tree.
I think it makes sense that this is the right Ludwig, who married Clara, who named his first son after his father Carl (but Carl must have died in the 1920's somewhere) as not mentioned in the 1930 census and wasn't a pallbearer either.
