Hi Tammy,
I just came across your 2006 query about burial information about Wentler family. I just joined Ancestry.com and have been trying to locate information about my father and his family.
My father was Loyd Alexander Wentler. He was married to Genevieve in 1927. I know nothing else of this marriage.
In 1937, Loyd married my mother Gladys.
Please let me know if you have any information about Loyd and Genevieve. If I can provide any information about my dad's second family, let me know.
Sincerely,
Rod Wentler

I will check when I have time.

You may also want to check the site findagrave.com
It is a site that people can add names to cemetery lists where they know someone is buried. You can also add photos if you like.

Also, you can check birth and death records from any county in Minnesota at http://people.mnhs.org
Currently the birth records are from 1900-1934 with some pre-1900 records and the death records are from 1904-2001.

Thank You again for the help... I haven't been in the Bohemian Cemetery near Hutchinson yet... I have found family across the roadat Adelberts Catholic Cemetery on Hwy 7 and Bear Creek off Hwy 7 and Cty Rd 4.

Regarding Palmer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, I think the sign is a great idea and and finding the owner is wise. Now I feel I opened a can of worms here-- I feel I should help here I just can't at his time.

Good news At the city office I found 4 of the family members names. There is to be a list put out at the cemetery.( Sunset Memorial) Cemetery personal was availble and very helpful. He had books and files that show and list the plots themselves and who purchased the site.

The 2 children had a headstone. The Aunt and Grandmother did not. I now have for remaining.

Thank you again for youe assitance.
Bonnie Berg Wilkening
Appleton,MN

There is a Bohemian cemetery maybe 5 miles west of Hutchinson, MN just of highway 7. south side of road.

The cemetery pictures for Palmer Creek Lutheran Cemetery. They were adding a tree planting along it when I took the photos. I have been thinking of making a basic sign for it. I will try to ask Saron Lutheran to the south if they have records for it. Find out who the landowner is and try to get permission to work on it.

There was North Star Cemetery a few blocks south of the current water tower. It was active 1876 to 1883. They moved the graves because of the water supply.

Information on Sunset Memorial, the city offices are connected to the police station off of hwy 7. It sounded like they were willing to do lookups. I am going to try again to get at least a listing of anyone passing away before 1950. Otherwise I will continue processing my 5000 pics of it.

Pretty much the only way to indentify pictures like that are looking through church photographs. The ones with confirmation or sunday school graduates.

Not sure about Our Saviors between Dawson and Montevideo. There is a Baxter church with an index online.
Well, I guess the Baxter church is Our Saviors.
http://usgwarchives.net/mn/lacquiparle/lacquipa.html

That one had a close relationship with Saron Church east of Montevideo. I attached a map. Hwy 7 is under construction east of Walmart so look at the map and head south until west of Black Oak Cemetery (tarred road) then head east. Saron Church has a gazebo with a cemetery map. There is a old cemetery north of Saron Church with a couple of markers called Palmer Creek. There is an approach next to it. Neighbors dog(s) will bark but they do not cross the road. There is a Benta Berg marker out there on Palmer Creek. Passed away Aug 21 1887. 65 years of age. She could be a surprise relative.
I attached Benta Berg's photo, a general view of what to expect if you visit Palmer Creek Cemetery and a map of the cemeteries on the east side of Montevideo.
You know you are a genealogy geek when you get lost and as soon as you see a cemetery, you know exactly where you are.
To Mike Andrews
Thank you so much for all the comments I will use them
I was at the Sunset Memorial last summer -I spent most of the day there. I don't think I walked it all, I couldn't figure out the format- it seemed like old was mixed with some new ???. Who would have any information on the lay out???. I do plan to go back.
A bit of history
My family John O Berg (Olssen) (Verdal Norway) Married Christine Anderdatter Nelson Hammer (Varmland, Sweden). He was a tailor- he is listed as a tinner in an old Monte Directory. The place was located apprx where the Design Store is. They were in Monte before 1888 & after 1905.
They were members of Our Saviors. They left behind
Marie Hammer -sister
Bendick P Hammer- 1st husband and brother-in-law
Gustav Hammer--nephew
Oluf Hammer-nephew
Martha Nelson- mother
Olaf Julius Auker Berg---son
Ester Magdslene Berg-daughter
missing is Henry Hammer --brother.
I have a picture Album that was given to me. The names were told to me and Grandma died a month later. We found out there were no names on the photos. I have been trying to name them ever since. I have some finished. Visit www.picasaweb.google.com/bdwilken --put your curser over the pictures and see the comments
I also have 2 pictures taken in Appleton and I am ever so curious to know who they are.
I grew up in Bloomington, not knowing any of this until I was about 30.

Thank You ever so much
Bonnie (Berg) Wilkening
Appleton

One more thing about obits from 1884 to 1905. If the newspaper even published one, it might say that services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran Church which does not narrow it down much. Even a 1900 map will show several Norw Luth Ch, German Luth Ch, Swedish Luth Ch and not the actual name.
The online census might help with the township name.
You listed Gippe. There was a Gippe family living in Tunsberg. So that name might show up in the cemetery in Watson, the Zion to the NW or Immanuel to the NE. I need to know first/last names to help you further. Even Brono north of Montevideo.

That online marriage index has Martin Gaare married to Mary Goldner (age 21) in Chippewa County MN. The marriage cert has Mary Goldner at the bottom of it. The other places on the marriage cert it looks like Mary Saldner. They marriage was done by minister Abel Anderson in Montevideo. Book C Page 339.

John E Gaare born Nov 13 1897 in Chippewa. Book A-144-37. I ran out of time at the courthouse. His parents must be Martin and Mary.

The 1885 census has Ingeborg Gaare and Martin Gaare in house #86. And it is just them. So I checked marriage book B and I think it is Ingeborg Gaare on pages 105 and 555. A judge married Ingeborg Gaare to Christian Sorby on Mar? 22 1886. And a judge married Ingeborg Gaare to Knut Wighals? on Dec 13 1892.

Death index from 1870 to 1940 did not show Ingeborg Gaare/Sorby/Wighals.

That leaves Martin Gaare born in Wisconsin and mom Ingeborg Gaare. I would track down John Gaare's obit if I were you.

I did some more digging on Martin Gaare and found this.
The online Minnesota Census
http://www.mncounty.com/Modules/Certificates/Marriage/Defaul...
CHIPPEWA county Minnesota
BooK C - PG 339 married 3/16/1897 GAARE, MARTIN A to GOLDNER, MARY A.

So Martin and Mary are probably parents to John E Gaare Sr.

http://people.mnhs.org/census/search.cfm?bhcp=1
1885 census for Rosewood township, Chippewa County has Martin A Gaare at 15 yrs and born in Wisconsin. Same census/location has Ingeborg O Gaare at 54 yrs born in Norway.

http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/
Ingeborg picked up land on 6/30/1882 - NW quarter of section 8, Rosewood township, Chippewa County, Minnesota. I attached satellite images of that property which is located straight north of Montevideo along hwy 29.
Which is why(1882) she shows up in 1885 census. But no Gaare on the 1895 census so John born in 1897 should be elsewhere. But they do not show up on any MN census for 1895 and 1905. It suggests that Ingeborg husband is not around when she picked up the land. And only one child. 12/13 yr old Martin must have grown up real fast when his mom picked up 160 acres.

The Gaare name is rare name. I swear I have seen it on a grave marker. Not showing up on a 1895 census implies the older sandstone markers which are beaten by weather and moss. I have it down in my black box. I will check death/birth/marriage index.

The puzzle is getting married in chippewa in 1897 but nothing shows up in 1895 census.

Most likely Sunset Memorial on the north side of Montevideo, Minnesota. You can try calling the city offices. It sounded like they are willing to do lookups.

Another popular one is Terrence Lawn Memorial Gardens on the west side of town by Camp Release Monument. Last time I was there they had a phone number posted at the main gate.

You can check obits at the Montevideo Public Library. They have newspaper microfilm. For some of your years, the Monte newspapers did not seem to publish any obits on anyone. If you find an obit, it might refer to Montevideo Cemetery or city cemetery, both are now Sunset Memorial.
I attached a screen shot of my Google Earth for the area.
Mike Andrews
Watson, MN

I already gave you the link to the online Minnesota census. Oluf and Jons Leaf show up on the 1905 census for Hayes township, Swift County, Minnesota. Hayes is the eastern edge in the center. I have Hillcrest and Monson Lake cemeteries in Hayes township on my Google Earth. Monson is the largest. There are a lot of Leaf showing up on census for Hayes township. Jons would have been 30 when Oluf was born so could be the father. I do not travel to the Swift County courthouse. It is just too expensive to drive there. You should post a query on the Swift board. A link to Minnesota - County is near to top of this page.

No Chris Hanson listed in the 1993 edition of History of Chippewa County, Minnesota.
Nothing interesting on the online census records.
http://people.mnhs.org/census/search.cfm?bhcp=1
I would think running an orchard in Minnesota would be a challenge. He would make good money in the fall harvest but he must have worked on something else during the winter. Maybe he moved on to better orchard states.
Nothing on the death index for Chippewa County, Minnesota.
http://people.mnhs.org/dci
If you know the names of his wife and kids or a date when he moved into the area would be helpful.

http://people.mnhs.org/bci

MN birth index. Search for Turner with mothers maiden name of Sturgeon. Eva and Mildred Turner show up for the Chippewa County, MN. Last one born in 1919. That was a tough financial time in the county. Plenty of foreclosures. Plenty of people headed west to Washington state and Canada had ads in local papers offering free 160 acre farmland. Good farmland in this county has sold at $4,000 an acre today.

You should get your data prepared and posted on worldconnect.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

Nothing in the index for 1993 History of Chippewa County, MN for those surnames.

Not many can help you on your tree because so few people can view it.

I try to assist others on this board with their family tree. You might try putting your data on www.rootsweb.com. I believe they have freepages in their URL.
http://accounts.rootsweb.ancestry.com/
They do like donations for hosting webpages. Also try worldconnect
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

Does Anybody know???
I have found 8 relatives using the Chippewa Court records and Our Saviors Lutheran Church records. These 8 relative are deceased, between yrs 1884 to 1905. When I asked where they might be buried (which cemetery)no one seems to know. At that time did Our Saviors Have a cemetery? Where? Are there platte maps for the cemetery's?
I appreciate any comments.
I was reading previous posts. Should I be checking for obits. first??
I may have even found connection to a different relation from a previous post. This message borad is great.
Bonnie W
Appleton,MN
