In my famiy record, I found a David Dilyea (11/1868) married one of my relatives(Ida Howard) in Frankfort,(Benzie County) MI on May 5, 1889. They had 2 sons, Bert (1902) & Donald (1908). In the 1910 census, the record shows that David had died & Ida (widowed) living with her father with her 2 sons. Does this match anything that somebody else has? She did remarry a Harry Lawrence 12-20-1918 in St. Ignace, MI.

Elmer Charles Damaska

Looking for information on Elmer Charles Damaska, my paternal grandfather. Elmer was middle aged when my father, Earl Neil Damaska, was born, youngest of his children. So my dad remembers little about his father's family. Here's what I know.

Elmer Charles Damaska (b. 4/1/1909 d. 1/9/1994)
was the son of
Levi Damaska (b. 6/19/1888 d. after 1930)
(last known residence for Levi is in Wexford County
Hospital, Haring, Michigan as a patient in the 1930
US Census)
Nellie Arvilla Leavitt Damaska (b. 11/17/1890 d. 3/18/1914)

The story goes that Elmer was born in Boon, Michigan and when his mother died when he was 5 years old and he went to live with her parents. My research has proven that.

Elmer Charles Damaska adopted grandson of,
Eunice Almeda Letson Leavitt (b. 1872 d. 1960)
William Wesley Leavitt (b. 1856 d. 1930)
Residents of Boon, Michigan.

(Eunice Almeda Letson Leavitt - remarried to a
Mr. Burns sometime after 1930)

My grandfather Elmer Charles Damaska, alway talked about a brother of his that died at birth, or as baby. I have found records of a Wesley Damaska born about 1906 or 1907, possible 1908. I cannot find any other information to verify.

He also said that there were children of the family buried in Boon, but as I live in South West Michigan, near Detroit, I am unable to make it up to Boon.

If anyone has any information about the family members listed, I would greatly appreciate all you could share with me.

Thanks you,
Stacey Renee Damaska Yarrington
Looking for any information on the Flint McArthur family. They lived in Cadillac from at least 1907 to 1930. Flint was fisrt married to Blanche Jordan in Grand Rapids. Then moved to Cadillac - they divorced in 1908. He then married his 2nd wife, Blaine Edith Spring nee Thompson, in Kalamazoo (where she lived at the time) but they then lived in Cadillac. He worked for the railroad and apparently died between 1920 and 1930. Any information will help.

I found a reference on Familysearch for a marriage of Frank Downing to an Emily F. Welch on 12 DEC 1908. Is there a way I can get a copy of this marriage. The weird part is that they are already married on the 1900 Census in Toledo, Ohio. I am wondering if the marriage was actually in 1898 which would explain their daughter in October 1899.

Soo Evening News Sault Ste Marie Michigan
Sunday March 2, 2008

Julia (Kidder) Leemgraven

Mrs. Julia “Judy” (Kidder) Leemgraven, 89, of Rockford went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 29, 2008.

She was born in Mesick to Kenteth and Muriel (Moyer) Kidder. In 1938 she graduated from Benzie Central High School. Her husband, Russell was a State Police officer and back then, he had to get permission to marry and go into debt. Judy was a stay-at-home mom until her children grew up and then she worked for K-mart in Farmington Hills. Always a lady, Judy was very concerned for her family's safety and well being. She was a night owl who watched Johnny Carson and Jack Parr, but her favorite was Lawrence Welk. Judy attended the Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She was always home when her children came home, and wherever her children were, that's where their mom was. She loved special times with her children and attended football games, band concerts and other activities.

Later in life, she and Russell became snowbirds and liked to travel. She loved to putter in her flower garden. Her family and her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and many of her special crafts have become cherished gifts for them.

She is survived by her children: Carolyn and Bud Feikema of Rockford, Warren and Sue Leemgraven of Allendale, Rodney Leemgraven and Gary and Janice Leemgraven, all of Walled Lake; grandchildren, Marc and Kerri Feikema, Alison and Michael Reed, Travis and Lisa Leemgraven, Steven and Leslie Leemgraven, and Kenny Leemgraven; ten great-grandchildren with another anticipated special arrival; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Armstrong, Don and Lila Kidder, Mrs. Marilyn Munson and Mrs. Ilene Liberty; and a sister-in-law, Marge Kidder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, her brothers, Marvin and David Kidder, sisters-in-law, Joyce Kidder, Hermoine Cone and Margaret Leemgraven and her husband, Volney.

The service for Mrs. Leemgraven will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rockford Reformed Church with Pastor Rick Tigchon officiating.

Interment will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook, NE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

Friends may meet with Mrs. Leemgraven's family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N.
Search in County Wexford. My family research has led me to County Wexford for the name Madog/Maddox. I have found substantial Irish connections to the name Maddox. There appeared a Saint Maedoc who developed a parish in Ferns, County Wexford in the sixth century. One of the first Irish Bishops was Mael Madoc. There is a Maddockstown, Kilkenny, Ireland and a River Mattock in County Louth. I am looking for help from anyone who can provide me links to the Madoc surname and it's Celtic roots. Thank you.

I recently received the obituary of my great great great grandmother, Mrs. Addie (Saviou) Hamilton. From information provided in it, I learned that my great great grandfather, John Hamilton who lived in the area of Mesick had a sister named Mrs. Mabel Sequin who lived in the Cadilac area in 1912 when their mother died.

Addie died at her son, Ector's home, in Payne, Ohio. Addie's husband, Benjamin, and 5 of her children had preceded her in death. The obituary stated that she had 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren at the time of death. I am hoping to be able to identify names for the 5 children who died before she did.

I would like to learn more about Mrs. Mabel Sequin and hopefully connect with some of her descendants to share information, photos, etc. I have considerable information to share on the descendants of her son, John and his wife, Mary Ann Earegood. John and Mary Ann, as well as some of their descendants are buried in Koochiching co., MN. Today members are clustered in Michigan's upper peninsula, WI, MN and even Idaho.

Manton is one of our family names and I have been working on the surname for several years now and am very curious why and from whom the name was picked for the township in Wexford County. My Manton family comes from Tipperary Co. and were Catholic; I would appreciate any input as to the origins of this Manton community as the name is quite uncommon.

Thank you,
Mary Mamalakis

Hieronymus McClelland (ca 1819 - aft 1900) last of Wexford Co., MI

I am searching for the date and place of death and burial for Hieronymus McClelland; born circa 1819 likely in Bradford Co., Pennsylvania; married Eliza A. SANTEE on 19 Oct 1848 likely in Bradford Co., Pennsylvania; died sometime after the 1900 census; last of Cedar Creek Twp. Wexford Co., Michigan.

Eliza A. SANTEE was born 17 Dec 1824 in Plymouth, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of James and Diadama LONG Santee. Eliza died 29 Jan 1903 in Manton, Wexford Co., Michigan and she’s buried there in Maple Grove Cemetery.

The following article is Eliza’s obituary, printed by the Troy Gazette Register Newspaper of Troy, Pennsylvania.

[Troy Gazette Register, Thursday, February 26, 1903]
Eliza A. SANTEE McClellan.
Mrs. Hironemous McClellan died with pneumonia at the home of her son Fred D. McClellan, Thursday morning, Jan. 29, after a brief illness of three days. Mr. McClellan has been in feeble health all winter and the shock to him is severe.
Eliza A. Santee was born at Plymouth, Penn., and at the age of 23 years was wedded to H. McClellan, they coming to Michigan, and later to Manton, where they have resided for twenty years. She was an estimable lady; has been a member of the M. E. church for thirty years and aged 78 years, 1 month and 19 days. Their only child, Fred N. McClellan, survives her. Funeral services are to be held at the home of the son, one’half mile east of town, at 2:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon and a sermon by Rev. F. C. Wood, and interment made in Maple cemetery. The son has the sympathy of many friends. Manton, Michigan Tribune.
Mrs. McClelland has been a former resident of Canton and later of Troy [PA].

Also, I’d like to discover the date and place of death and burial for Frederick Newman McClellan(d) named in his mother’s obituary. Fred was born circa 1850 likely in Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.

Any help obtaining vital data for my McClelland relations would be much appreciated.

Paul E.

From the "History of Wexford County, Michigan" by John H. Wheeler 1903 page 400.

Andrew B. Denike is a native of Ontario, Canada, born in Hastings county, April 16, 1846. His parents were Anthony and Elizabeth Denike, natives of Canada, but both are now dead, he dying in Canada, at the age of forty-five years, while she died also in Canada when she was forty-one years of age. They were parents of elven children, of whom Andrew B. was the eighth in order of birth.

The subject of this review was reared in his native country and there grew to manhood. He secured a fair common school education, but most of the years of his minority were devoted to hard labor on the farm.

In 1869, when twenty-three years of age, he came to Wexford County, Michigan, and decided to make it his permanent home. He looked over the land during the autumn, winter, and spring, finally taking up a homstead of one hundred and sixty acres, a part of section 36, Boon Township....

In Henderson township, Wexford County, on the 17th day of May 1875, Andrew B. Denike was united in marriage to Miss Emma L. Henderson, a native of Indiana, born in Huntington county, December 18, 1856. Her parents were Thomas S. and Sophia (Harris) Henderson, of Henderson township. They were among the first white settlers and early pioneers of Wexford county.....

Please contact me if you would like additional information shared as the biography continues on.

It would have been sometime after 1900 as my Aunt was born in 1913 and her sister, my grandmother in 1915, both in Baxter and their names were Margaret Irene Barrington and Clois Hattie Barrington.

Please contact me if you're able to help me out.
thanks so much
Billie Jo Hawley-Miller

PRAY, William. Does anyone know about his family and where he came from?

PRAY, William. I am researching the Pray family tree and am trying to find out more about William. I know he was born in 1855 but do not have a death date. I know he was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Ogemaw County.
I know about his children but not his mother, father or siblings. Any clues would be appreciated
Joan Chase

Vondrasek obit lookup

My gpa, Frank Vondrasek, died 17 Oct 1958. I remember seeing his obituary in the newspaper when we went to my gma's for the funeral, but I don't have copy of it. Could some kind soul look it up? He lived on a farm just outside Buckley, but I suspect the newspaper was from Cadillac.
