My husband's 2nd great-grandfather owned Heimbuch & Son Cigar Company in the early 1900's. It was located on Michigan Ave in Detroit right by Briggs Stadium.

We know that his name was William Heimbuch b Dec 1851 in Hessen Germany. Came to the US in 1865 at 14 yrs and stayed with "relatives" in PA. (Haven't located immigration/ship records--just know year of entry as it's listed on the 1900 census.)
I've found him on the 1870 census in Philly (but don't know who he lived with since I haven't actually viewed the whole page) and then the 1880 census in Detroit married to Mary (don't know maiden name but was also from Hessen) with their first children: Anna b Aug 1872, Adelaide, William Jr b May20 1877, Alford bAug 1879. He had a 2nd wife (also named Mary but born in MI) They had children: Sylvester b 1892, Theodore b 1894, Joseph b Feb 1898, Veronica b Sep 1899.
Note: William Jr married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Dunneback b abt 1876 in MI. They had 3 children: William E III b abt 1903, Adelaide b(married name Bachman), and Theodore E. Heimbuch b Apr 18, 1915. (All 3 children stayed in Wayne Co until their deaths.)

If anyone has more info on this family, especially regarding William the firsts ancestors in Hessen, it would be greatly appreciated.
