Dear Sir

I am attempting to find information about the Dilloway family that emigrated from Petworth, Surrey, England to Ohio USA about 1883.

Petworth in the period from 1820 - 1880 was suffering due to the agricultural decline. The majority of the residents worked on the land of the landed gentry and having no land of there own found that due to the increase of machinery to do the work which had previously been undertaken by labourers they became almost destitute. When the
opportunity of emigration to Canada and America where they could have the chance to own their own land, thousands emigrated.

Thomas Dilloway my great great grandfather worked as a gamekeeper on the Petworth Manor estate. His sons began their working life doing the same work however as the work dried up they were placed in the village workhouse. Charles Dilloway one of his sons born 1860, took the opportunity to Emigrate to USA and first settled in Versailles Village,
Darke, Ohio. He brought with him his wife Emily born 1861. Their children were all born in Darke, Ohio. Ethel Caroline b.1884, Walter Clarence b. 1890, William Caneal b. 1893, Elsie M b, 1899. I understand that the family moved on to Michigan. Walter Clarence Dilloway b. 1890 in Versailles Village, Darke, Ohio, USA married Blache Fogt in 1914 and
their children were all born in Wayne, Michigan USA. Their children were Kenneth William b. 1917, Ervin Lloyd b. 1919 and Harold R b. 1921

Any help you can offer that will assist me to locate information about this family would be appreciated.

Kind regards
