Helen Sarah BATES - Died Tuesday, January 25, 1994, at Lakeview Hospital, Paw Paw. She was born March 9, 1916, in New Woodstock, NY, the daughter of Leon and Viola (REYNOLDS) WALES. She had lived in this area most of her life and worked as a cook in the kitchen of Mattawan Consolidated Schools for 13 years. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, Lawton, and a life member of the Mattawan Chapter #192, O.E.S. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald in 1983; infant daughter Doris; and 3 brothers, Charles WALES, Jack SEIGEL and Cecil WALES. Surviving are 2 daughters, Geraldine SAMPSELL and Barbara BIGELOW, both of Lawton; 4 grandchildren, Andrew and Heather HORTON and Kathy and Jennifer SAMPSELL, all of Lawton; 1 great-grandson, Paul PULLEN, Jr; brother, Raymond SEIGEL of Valparaiso, IN; sisters, Thelma MITCHEL of San Diego, CA and Virginia RYDER of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at The New Thompson and Hawley Funeral Home, 1 mile S. of I-94 on M-40 A Forethought Member were an Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Lawton, with Rev. Jerry Koller officiating. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lawton.
