Passed away suddenly from heart complications. He was born April 14, 1936 in Kalamazoo, the son of Melvin R. Baker and Rutheta A. (Smith) Baker and had been a life long resident of this area. Melvin loved his grandchildren, hunting, gardening, and playing bingo. In May 1953 he married Janet A. Green and even though their marriage ended in divorce they remained the best of friends until her passing. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Michael J. Baker of Kalamazoo. Karen S. (Mike) Gordon of Tulare, CA and Barbara L. (Michael) Nordman of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren Matthew J. (Jennifer) Begeman, Ellery McIvor Baker, and Chelsea A. Begeman; two sisters, Marilynn R. (Gene) Raquepau of Pahrump NV, and Joyce E. Moreno of Lexington KY; six beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted on Saturday, April, 4th at 11:00 AM at Alamo Community Congressional Church. 7925 N. 6th St. Kalamazoo MI. The family invites everyone for a luncheon at the church following the service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
