Passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Kairos Dwelling, Kalamazoo. Jo Anna was born August 17, 1925 in Rogersville, Tenn., the daughter of Eldridge and Fannie (Kyle) Payne, both of whom precede her in passing. Also preceding her in passing were her husband: William on April 24, 1984, a sister: Jennie Mae Kincaid and two brothers: Robert Clifton Payne and Eldridge Jefferson Payne II.
Jo Anna worked as a secretary for Du Well's in Hartford for many years, before moving on to the Senior Nutrition Services, where she worked as a site manager up until her retirement. Jo Anna is survived by a daughter: Debora Jones, a granddaughter: Michelle (Demetrius Johnson) Buchanan of Mattawan, a great grandson: Byron Johnson of Mattawan and three sisters: Katherine Hoyle and Mollie Ruth Pope, both of Rogersville, Tenn. and Ethel Marie (Phillip) Rogers of Dayton, OH. The family will welcome friends from Noon to 1 P.M.; Tuesday, February 3 at the Leonard Funeral Home, Lawrence, where the service to honor her memory will commence at 1 P.M. Reverend Darwin Johnson of the Emmanuel Community Church of South Haven will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Memorial donations in Jo Anna's name may be made to Kairos Dwelling or to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
