MASHAK, Margaret
At the young age of 95, went to meet the Lord on Wednesday; December 24, 2008 at her daughter's home in Allegan. Margaret was born on January 21, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Straus) Tikal, both of whom precede her in passing. She was also preceded by her husband: Raymond Mashak on December 1, 1983, a granddaughter: Connie Griffith, a brother Bill Tikal and two sisters: Josephine Mashak and Mary Ann McVay. Margaret was a resident of Hartford, Michigan for many years until her health made it necessary for her to move in with her daughter in Allegan. She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Harford and a member of the churches Alter Society for numerous years. Margaret retired after working for over 14 years as a cook for the Hartford Public Schools. She loved to keep busy by helping others, baking cookies and making many hand crafted gifts for family and friends. Sewing and crocheting were her passion. Margaret is survived by her three children and their families: William and Sandra Mashak of Benton Harbor, John Mashak of Hartford and Raydell Gates of Allegan. Grandchildren: Michael Mashak, Seth Mashak, Jason Mashak, Joy Reeves, Tom Thornton, Leslie Clark, Lorry Belka, Steve Gates and Brian Gates. Great Grandchildren: Chalice, Ella, Evan, Zoe, Brandon, Blake, Lindsey, Logan, Jacob and Brandi and many nieces and nephews. As to Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be said on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford, Father Fabio Garzon, Celebrant. She will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford Township. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Margaret's name to the church or to the donor's choice. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford with handling the arrangements.
