So you say there iare no Breitstein's in Michigan until 1940, yet he owns 40 acres in Constantine in 1839. What would cause that to occur?

Nicolaus Breitstein bought land in Township 7-S Range 12-W May 1st 1839. He is the brother to my ancestor Barbara Breitstein whom married Ludwig Wachterhauser, whom bought land at the same time.

I would love any history anyone can give me on this Breitstein family, and the Wachterhauser's. The Wachterhauser's came from Switzerland in 1828, settling in Constantine 1839, and I believe the Breitstein's came from Alsace, but I am having trouble tracing the Breitstein line.

They are related to the Lintz family also of Alsace.

Photography Studio in Sturgis, Michigan 1870s

I have an old photo of my great grandparents William Thomas Ellis (b. Ohio 1822?) and Ann Eliza Bortz (b. Ohio 1828?) that is framed in a matte that has the name of a Sturgis, Michigan photo studio - it looks like Barrows or Burrows or Barw**s but I cannot make it out for sure, and I was hoping someone might know of an old studio by this name. I believe the photo was taken around 1870 or so - any suggestions or info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your response was rather cruel and unkind. If you have nothing to share then don't respond. If I had all the "dates," I would not be placing inquiries. And, for the record, I have been doing genealogy for over 35 years. Rather than get nasty with someone, just ignore the post.

What are you doing with the genealogy information you found in the home of Adam Radall Wagner. I would be interested in looking at it, if possible. I do not live in southern Michigan however, I am in Coleman, but have made a few trips to Centreville area to visit relatives and gain some insight into the lives of my ancestors. Please e-mail me about the collection. Thank you so much.

Phyllis Dickinson egaledick@aol.com

I know the original thread to this tread is very old but just in case someone is still looking for Wagner information I thought I'd post. I grew up in Colon and still live not far away. I still go back to camp out on the Farm that's been in the family since 1868. I have two brothers and several Wagner cousins still living in Colon or the surrounding area. Then there are several lady cousins who's maiden names are Wagner.

We are decedents of George Wagner who came to Colon in 1868. He first lived in Three Rivers MI in the early 60s coming from Snyder County PA. His Brother Henry also moved to the area, Sherman Township. Their Father was George D Wagner of Crossgrove Hall, West Beaver Twp, Snyder Co, PA.

Michigan did not require “by law” birth, marriage & death registrations until 1867.

So, there should be a death cert. available.

I am looking for more information about my paternal grandfather John Pestotnik, later changed to Pistotnik at Ellis Island. He came from Slovenia in the late 1800's with his brothers and they split up and we have no idea what happened to them. He brought his bride Teresa Pavlichek to Ohio and they raised 17 children. I would appreciate any assistance.

Thank you for the information. I already had a lot on her after her marriage. Have recent documents that put her surname as Reus. I found the marriage record for Jacob Fluri and Catharine Reus in January 1864 in Michigan. I am noe trying to track back her Reus name.

Bob

Jacob Fluri and Catherine Reas in St Joseph County 1864

Trying to find more on a pair of GG-Grandparents. I found that Jacob Mathias Fluri married Catherine Reas in St Joseph County on January 14, 1864. I have some on Jacob being born in Switzerland in 1832, Catherine is a blank up until her marriage to Jacob. Her obit from 1942 states that she was born in Pennsylvania and relocated to Elkhart Indiana with her foster parents at age 16. It goes on to state that that is where she met and marrieds Jacob and their first child was born, a son named Henry Phillip was born, before they moved to Cass County Michigan.

I have strong doubts on the authenticity of data in the obit as it was provided by her youngest son 80 years after the events. Just recently I found in "Michigan County Marriages 1820-1935" that they were really married in St Joseph County Michigan by a John Smith, Justice of the Peace on January 14, 1864.

Any information would be greatfuly accepted and more than willing to share information.

Bob
