Aaron B. Patterson purchases land in Owosso, MI in 1838

In The History of Lapeer County, I found an entry for Aaron B. Patterson under the Hadley, MI heading. It says "The following list of original land entries will show the original distribution of land in the township prior to 1841". It goes on to state that Aaron B. Patterson purchased land in Sect. 23 on 06/03/1836.

I found the same type of entry for Owosso, MI dated July, 1838 in Section 29, and that one confirms he is the Aaron B. Patterson for whom I'm looking because it says he was from Monroe County, NY.

Can anyone explain what these entries mean? It appears that Aaron bought two parcels of land in various counties in Michigan. However, the census records show him living in Pittsford, NY by 1850 and I cannot locate him in any prior census records. His two sons, Ezra and Mortimer, were both born in Monroe County, NY in the 1840s.

Would Aaron have bought the land just to turn around and re-sell it? I'm at a loss to explain this. Can anyone assist me? Thanks!
This is a little long but I wanted to share this information with anyone else researching this family.

This is a copy of an obit I found in my grandmother's scrapbook in New York. No idea what newspaper or anything other than she had written in the date 1940. No one in the family knows anything about this obit. I have been trying to identify these people and I think they are the children of Achsah and George Weller.

Charles Weller, 605 East 111th street, passed away Friday morning. Mr. Weller was born in Michigan March 4, 1872 and resided in Chicago for more than 45 years. For the past 4 1/2 years he lived in this community where he was care taker for the Pullman club.

Mr. Weller was the husband of Hannah, nee Nelson and father of Charles Jr.. and the late George, brother of Fred of Lennon, Michigan. Mrs. Nellie Davis of Battle Creek, Mich., George Mullen of Norfolk VA and Frances Kressler of Long Beach, Cal.

Funeral services were held from the Doty Funeral home Monday afternoon, with Rev. Lowell R. Ditzen officiating, assisted by Russell Perkins, soloist and Mrs. Clara Luca, organist. Internment was in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery.

You located Fred and apparently he stayed in Michigan.
George was living with an Aunt and Uncle in NY after his mother died and apparently took their name. I located him with Charles in Illinois.

I am not sure where Charles was when he died, it may have been in Illinois. But this brings up the question, where did my grandmother get a copy of the obit in NY?
Looking for my Great Grandmother, Matilda Phillips Hyde. I don't have much info. My Grandmother, Cora (Hyde) Butson Beebe's death certificate says she was born in Hazelton, Shiawassee County, Michigan. I have contacted both Hazelton and Michigan and there is no record of her birth. The only info I have on Matilda is her name and that she was married to Charles Hyde. Cora died when my father was 18 and her husband Joseph Butson died when my father was 6 so I have no family information.

Any help or suggestions whould be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sandra Butson Jones

Effie's children, Frank, Nancee, William (Skip), Sally (deceased), Joseph, and Ronnie. If you're still interested I'm sure I can get you in touch with the family.
Hello Sally,

Now that I've read the entire thread here, I see that you might be the person who could answer my question about Selden Phelps who was the sister to Rachel. Do you know who their parents were?

I am researching Silas Phelps Sr. (m. Amitys Cone). This Silas Phelps had a son Selden who would have been born in NY somewhere around 1800 give or take 10 years. I also obtained research that was done by a distant family member years ago who conjectured that there were two Phelps brothers in Michigan, Daniel and James, who may have been related to Silas but so far I've not found enough information to prove it one way or another. Does any of this sound familiar?

Thanks very much,
Virginia

Donna,

I think we corresponded in years past. I am interested in obtaining the full obituaries for Ruth and Selden Phelps. I'm also wondering if you know anything about the other Selden Phelps who lived in Shiawassee County in the early-mid 1800s? I am trying to sort out whether the other Selden might be an uncle of this Selden Phelps (m. Ruth Reynolds). I have come across a notation that says that Silas Phelps, Jr. had a brother named Selden.

(For reference, I'm a descendant of (your) Selden's older brother George A. Phelps.)

Many thanks,
Virginia

William Noonan (1816-1888)

William Noonan (1816-1888) was born in (Waterford?) Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. between 1844 and 1850 to Massachusetts. He is shown in the 1850 Census report for Hampden, West Springfield, MA where he is listed with the following family members.
Catherine (Rourke) Noonan (1813-1858) - Wife, born in (Waterford?) Ireland
Margaret (1838-1879) Daughter, Born in Waterford, Ireland
Mary (1841 -?) Daughter, Born in Ireland
Thomas (1844-1901) Son, Born in Ireland
Martin (1848-1916) Son, Born in Massachusetts
Stephen (1851-1926) Son, Born in Massachusetts
*
They next show up on the 1860 Census in Rush Twp, Owosso, Michigan.
Only William, Thomas, Martin and Stephen are listed. Catherine passed away after arriving to Michigan in 1858.
*
At some point between 1861 and 1868, William remarried Ellen Carmody in Owosso and had two children, William (1868-1913) and Ellen "Ella" (1869-1910). Stephen married Delia M. Davis (1842-1935), Martin married Hattie A. Currier (1856- 1926) Thomas married Mary S. Allen (1845-1917) and Margaret married Searl “Cyril” Drown (1827-1920).
*
Around 1880 William his wife Ellen, Stephen and Ella all changed their surnames from Noonan to Nonon. This is what is on all of their grave stones. Thomas kept the Noonan spelling, this is my Great Great Grandfather.
*
CEMETERY INFORMATION
William “Nonon” Noonan – MT. Hope, Shiawassee, Michigan
Catherine “Nonon” Noonan – MT. Hope, Shiawassee, Michigan
Ellen Carmody Nonon – MT. Hope, Shiawassee, Michigan
Stephen “Nonon” Noonan – Riverside East, Shiawassee, Michigan
Delia M. Davis Nonon – Riverside East, Shiawassee, Michigan
Ellen Ella “Nonon” Noonan – Riverside East, Shiawassee, Michigan
Thomas Noonan – St. Paul Cemetery, Owosso Michigan
*
QUESTIONS:
1.	Who were William's Parents and where in Waterford, Ireland was he born?
2.	Who were Catherine’s Parents (I have Martin Rourke and Margarette Griffin but I am not positive on that) and where in Waterford, Ireland was she born?
3.	When and where did William and Catherine get married?
4.	What port(s) did they arrive in the U.S. and on which ship and year?
5.	Where did Mary go? I cannot locate her in Michigan with the family.
6.	Why did they change their name from Noonan to Nonon.

Any information would be extremely grateful. Thank You
Frederick "Fred" Stirm

I would like to find out when, where, and why Frederick Stirm died, and where he is buried. He was born about 1868 in Ohio. He married Sarah C. Lang in Ingham County on 15 Jan 1891. They had a daughter, Florence H. Stirm born May 1892. I think Frederick died (or divorced) before July 1893. Florence married Wright W. Adams in 1910. Wright was born about 1889.
Any additional info on Frederick or Florence would be appreciated. Thank you. Leon
