I am looking for info on The Demars family, of the Cooks area. My grandfather was Elmo Philip Demars, his father was Arthur Joseph Demars, and rumor say his father was named Tom. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello, Nice to hear from someone from the Cooks, MI area. I went to school in Cooks back in the mid and later 1950's. My maiden name was Betty Perry then and my brother who went there with me was George Perry and he was 2 years younger. We lived on the old McGahn(sp?)farm about 2 miles from the school. I went there in the elementary school in grades 3rd thru about the 7th grade. I sure would love to hear from anyone who remembers me or my brother. He said he was friends with the Demars and Popours boys. I remember the name Sharon Cook whose family owned the Cooks Bar and Karen Demars, Leland McManus, Deloris Williams, Susan Tanguay, and the name Reed. I seem to recall the Demars family lived fairly near the school and when I went to the house, it seemed there was always the good smell of freshly baked bread or something good cooking. I remember a group of us ran away from school one day and we all got in big trouble. Later on I learned that one of the Popour boys was nicknamed "Popish" and Willard Lambert, my cousin, lived with him awhile when they were in Chicago in their younger days.

I have some info on some of these families. I would love to know if you or anyone you know remembers any of these names.

Hi, I don't have you specific Demars, but we know it is also often spelled Demers.
My great grandfather, Alfred LeMay, married Julie Demers (also spelled Julia Demars
on another document), in St. Pierre Les Becquets, Quebec Province, Canada, on
October 24, 1874, in Nicolet, Lotbiniere County, Quebec, Province, Canada. According
to Armand LeMay, who has the most extensive data-base of LeMays on any site,
Demers or Demars is the single most frequent name to which a LeMay is wed---264 times a LeMay wed a Demers. Alfred LeMay and Julie Demers had five children--four born in
St. Pierre Les Becquets, sons Alfred Pierre and Joseph Ludgar, and two daughters,
Odilia and Severine. More to your interest, the fifth child, also a daughter, is
Aurora LeMay, born March 30, 1885 in Michigan, in Cooks, Michigan area. My father ,
Joseph Alfred LeMay is Alfred's son by a later marriage. He is born in 1899 in Cooks,
Michigan. Julie Demers died sometime between 1885 and 1892, I believe in the Cooks,
Michigan area. If you think this relates to your Demars, contact me at the above, or
at mlemay@csusb.edu.

Florence, Do you have anything on Julie Demers/DeMars? See my other message. She married Alfred LeMay and they were living in the Cooks/Garden area. I just feel like they might be related in some way.

All we have is Odilia LeMay Courteau's marriage certificate which shows her parents are Alfred LeMay and Julie Demers. Also have documents of Aurora and Severine showing same parents.

Appreciate any help you can give.

Betty,

Hi! I'm sure you know my mother's family, the Miller's. Sue and Bob Tanguay were her friends. Since almost everyone from Cooks is somewhat related, you probably are one of her cousins. I have been meaning to ask a few questions about one of your postings and I have info for you if you are interested. The people you mentions are all ancestors of mine. Anxious to hear from you.
