My grandfather, Burton H Lewis, was born in Saginaw MI on 7 Jul 1877 and was listed as adopted in the 1880 Census in Shelby, Oceana County, MI. His adopted parents were Henry S and Wealthy Lewis. I am sure he never knew he was adopted and we have no knowledge of his birth parents other than that the father was born in Michigan and the mother was born in Indiana.

I would appreciate hearing of any known adoption records in Saginaw (or Shelby) during that time, or of ideas about how to find them.
