I came across this entry while looking for my Burnham ancestors and thought I'd pass it along to help someone else.

Joseph T. Burnham of Saginaw City, MI was born July 30, 1824 in Berlin, Erie Co., OH.
His mother was Maria Walker, daughter of Norman Walker of Holland Co., CT. His father, Elsworth Burnham, was a farmer, coming to Ohio from Hebron, Holland Co., CT in 1821.
At the age of 16, he attended the academy at Norwalk, OH for two winters.
The Burnham family had established a sawmill in Berlin, thereby coming into contact with Michigan lumbermen. Joseph came to Saginaw in 1856 and purchased a sawmill and land on which to log at St. Charles, in partnership with another man. The enterprise continued profitably for many years. During that time, Joseph and several partners bought what was known as the Burnham & Still Mill on the Middle Grounds of the Saginaw River. However, this mill burned in 1886, making it the seventh mill destroyed by fire that was associated with Joseph.
He began liquidating his sawmill interests and turned to farming. Land that once grew pine trees that Joseph had logged now served to furnish him with farm land.
He married Julia Hine on Nov. 16, 1849. She was the daughter of Shelden Hine of Berlin, OH. Sheldon Hine came from Bethlehem, Litchfield Co., CT in 1819. He drove an ox-team the entire way, taking 41 days to make the journey.
He was a Republican and became a member of the I.O.O.F. at the age of 24.
It is said at the age of 65 he looked like a man of 40 years, despite streaks of gray in his beard. He had attractive social qualities and deemed one of the solid business men of Saginaw. -- Cyclopedia of Michigan, pg. 195
