I have very little info here, but am looking for info on a drowning in Houghton Lake, possibly a woman and her daughter in the 1930's w/ the last name of Stebner. They were members of the family and the surviving husband/father would never speak of them (from what I remember as a youth). Now there is no one else left to ask. Any help you can provide will be most helpful! The family had a cottage on the south side of the lake, but were residents of Riga, Michigan. Thanks, Sandy

From what I understand he was born in Norway about 1841/1842 then came to Mich. married Olive Howe in 1872 and died about 1923. He lived in Nellsville Mich, this small township was named after him because he was the first post master. I am especially looking for his parents names and where from Norway they came. ANy help would be greatly apprieciated. I am also looking for information about his son Herbert Nelson. He was born in 1875, married Julia Melang 1905 and I am not sure when he died. My father remembers visiting him when my father was young. My father was born in 1949.

Elbridge and Ida were in Roscommon in 1910 and Wilbert and Catherine were there from possibly 1890 to 1920 plus and had two children. If anyone has any information re these two families I would appreciate hearing from them. These gentlemen were my great uncles and they have been lost to the Canadian part of the family since the early 1900s. Waiting hopefully Murray Burke.

Flower Gardener in Roscommon

My grandfather Carl Kleemann, who immigrated from Germany in 1911, listed Roscommon as his place of residence on his 1915 marriage record. He was married in Detroit. We have no idea what he was doing way up in Roscommon unless it had something to do with gardening. His uncle was a gardener for a wealthy family who had a summer home in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, WI, where later my grandfather also worked. Were there summer homes on the lakes near Roscommon, which would have required gardeners? How would my grandfather have found out about such a job? I visited Roscommon once and noticed that there was a large Florist on the edge of town. Would there be any records that would list my grandfather's employment by this florist or some other?

We are looking for any records, perhaps school records, from the mid 1800's that would give information about the McCarty family who resided in Roscommon at that time. The children might have been Bertha or Birdie, Edith, Minnie, George or Clarence. Voting records or tax records might also list this family. They are very elusive as they had started in Ohio, came to Michigan, moved to Kansas and returned to Michigan and simply do no show up in many records even though their movements around the country are known.

Thanks for any help you can give.
I am trying to find information on Donald J. Parton who died in Houghton Lake February 16, 2001. I believe he is the son of Clarence Parton and Mary ??. I found the following information. If this is the correct Donald, he would have been born in Detroit. Listed with Clarence, Mary, and sister Virginia in 1920 Detroit census. In 1930, listed with Mary and sisters virginia and Shirley. Mary was a widow. I believe Clarence had a disagreement with his father and left home at a very early age--and didn't maintain contact with his family. would hope to find an obit or some other information establishing the relationship. also place of burial. Have alot on Clarence's family, which I would gladly share. any help is appreciated.

Name: Donald J.
My cousin and I have traced the family back to Joseph and Agnes Hintz of Bay City, MI.

The Hintz's emigrated to the US from Germany, when Joseph was 12 years old, in 1884. It is said they settled in St. Helens Michigan

Joseph had a brother Val, a sister Josephine and a sister Mary that moved to Chicago, IL. Four more children were born later to Joseph's parents in St. Helen's(I believe) -- John, Tony, Anne and Lillian.

The Ratajczak family emigrated from Poland and settled in St. Helens also, in 1885, when Agnes was 8 years old. Siblings include Stanley, Victoria (Gajewski) Josie (Zielinski) and Kate (Conley)
Any help will be appreciated!!

I am trying to find some information on my great-great grandfather, Thomas Fahy. He came to America from County Roscommon Ireland in the late 1830's or early 1840's. He originally went to NY. His obituary stated that after spending about 2 years in Ulster County NY, he went to Michigan and lived for about 2 years. He then returned to Ulster County NY where he lived out the rest of his life and died.
I am not sure that he went to Roscommon County in Michigan, but since he was from County Roscommon Ireland I figured it was a good place to look!!
Thanks
Sissy

Looking for any information on Samuel Knapp born May 1839 in New York. He married Sarah (Miles or Mills or McGee) in Michigan. Sarah was born in 1845 in Michigan. They had 3 children all born in Michigan: Ada in 1865 (married Charles Kellog), Jesse in 1867 (married Lida Soule) and Carrie in 1869 (married Eugene Stanley). Samuel's sister or cousin Ada married James Harrison of Washkema Township in Kalamazoo county in 1864. I have no information on the parents or siblings of Samuel or Sarah. This leaves too much of a hole, can anyone help fill it?

Elbridge and Ida were in Roscommon in 1910 and Wilbert and Catherine were there from possibly 1890 to 1920 plus and had two children. If anyone has any information re these two families I would appreciate hearing from them.

I'm looking for three carpentering brothers who were in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91. They don't seem to have returned to the original family home in Ann Arbor, MI and are not buried with the rest of their family there. Following are the names of all (8) children of the family, in case subsequent generations recycled some of them:
Parents: Gottlieb BUCHHOLZ (one h later dropped)and wife, Caroline SCHMID (might be a t on the end) emigrated from Prussia 1868/69 to New York>Ann Arbor, MI. Some children emigrated with them and others were born in the US.
Herman, Labrecht G. (Labbey)(m.), Bertha Mathilda Charlotte, Albert A., William F., Henry, Charles L., and Frank H..

The missing sons are:
Albert A. BUCHOLZ
b. 1870 in Prussia. It is unknown if he married. Last whereabouts: 1890/91 was staying in boarding house at 1965 Erie, Toledo, Ohio. Trade: Carpenter and doesn't say where he was working.

William F. BUCHOLZ
b. 1869 in New York (during or shortly after voyage from
Prussia. He was a carpenter by trade, but doesn't say where he was working in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91 when he was boarding at 1965 Erie. He returned to Ann Arbor, MI, to marry (In 27 Aug 1892) Sarah A. MOORE, b. 1869 in Indiana. (dressmaker daughter of P. MOORE and Sarah MAYNES. The trail is cold after the marriage.

The sister of these three men was also staying in Toledo, Ohio, in the same boarding house at 1965 Erie for a period of time. She has no trade or work listed and shortly thereafter returned to Ann Arbor to marry my gr. grandfather, Richard Garibaldi PORTWINE (also a carpenter).

Frank H. BUCHOLZ is the third missing brother from this family. He was b. 1 Aug 1875 in Ann Arbor, MI and it is not known if he married. He was a carpenter by trade and in 1890/91 he was living at 556 Church Street, Toledo, Ohio and working as a carpenter for the Wabash R. R., in Toledo.

If anyone from Roscommon can shed some light on where they may have gone on to, I'd be delighted to hear from you.
