Death in 1913

William Hamilton died Aug 1, 1913 in Otsego Co. Hayes township. Cert. of Death lists suicide as cause of death. If anyone comes across any information such as a newspsper article, would appreciate the information. Hamilton was my grandmother's first husband. I never knew how he died there were lots of stories but my grandmother remained in KY while he went to look for work in Michigan and I don't think she ever knew what happened. (His death made her a widow at 18 with 2 kids) cjthecsp@comcast.net

My husband is the one related to you. But I'm the one interested in the family tree : ) His great great grandfather, Frank Gierke, was Elda Mae's brother. Frank was the 2nd child of Adam Gierke and Mary Ann Lamont. Frank left Grayling and lived and died in Manistique, MI.

You say your are the granddaughter of Geraldine. I did meet your grandmother too when I was in Grayling. Who is your mother?

Also, is Bob doing well?

Lynn

I am the granddaughter of Beth's sister, Geraldine. I am not necessarily working on the family tree, although it is a very intense hobby for my grandmother, and she shares the information she finds with me. I do find it very interesting. And how are you related?

Sincerely, Karen

This is a very old post, so perhaps you have already found the information you are looking for. If not, "Toots"
whose given name was Elda Mae, was my great-grandmother, and she resided in the family homestead in Grayling, MI until her death in 1990. Her daughter, Beth, resided there afterward. Her father, Adam, was married to Mary Anne, and I do believe her maiden name was LaMott. There were actually several children born to Adam and Mary Anne, seven, I believe.

You can find them in 1920 Census on the first page for the township, dwelling # 92. The 1930 census has them on the first page of the township at dwelling #6. Children are Annie, Vera, William, Stanley, and Frances. If this is who you are looking for let me know. I can give you a little more information. The family was known as Sink.

My grandfather lived in otsego in 1910 he was born. His name is Fred Martin Foote. His Father was Elmer Foote and mother was Almeda Slater. His mothers mom was Rosella Ardell Slater. She was an individual with a lot of last names. Also his grandfather and grandmother on his Fathers side were Christopher Foote and Charlotte Parker. They lived there in otsego also. He died in 1915 i beleive. Charlotte remarried a cornelius Corless and moved to Vanderbuilt. I am just wondering if anyone would have any info on the family. I know he also had a cousin named Bertha Taylor . She was Christophers granddaughter born in 1906. My grandfather had a sister and brother also. Vernice Stafford, and Hilon Foote. I have been doing research forever and i find out little things here and there but i really wish someone could bless me with a little more info. If anyone can help me with anything please write me back.

Sincerely,Kathie Molitor.

Well, finding this post really knocked me for a loop! I thought I had figured out the line for my wife but looks like I may be wrong. My wifes grandmother (and whom she was named for) was Marjorie "Whitman" Knopf. Marjorie married Arnold Knopf of Flint and they had a son, Robert Knopf. Robert is my wifes father. Robert married Geraldine Knoll and they had 4 children, Laura, Marjorie (my wife), Jimmy and Robert (Jimmy and Bobby died in a house fire when still pre-school) I will continue to research to try to confirm that this Marjorie Knopf is the one in my wifes line however, we know her maiden name was Whitman and I find it difficult to believe that two many Marjorie Whitman's married Knopf's at this time frame. Any additional info would be appreciated.

My grandfather was Stefan Skop. He was born in 1872 in what is now Slovica. I would like to identify the region of Slovica and possible town of his birth. He traveled out to Oregon in his youth. He settled in Schuykill County PA. He died in 1936. I wondered if there is one region of Slovica where the name skop is most common. Ssince he settled in the mining area of PA I thought he might have come from the Tatra Mountain region. This is just speculation on my part.

Another thing, I can now see that Elsie Ann Moore must not be the Elizabeth A. identified as Cecil's wife in 1930. I can only guess that he was twice married, Elizabeth being a first wife and Elsie being his second wife.

As you can see from the following, the information I have on Cecil's family is sketchy at best. Corrections will be most appreciated (TEP):

929. Cecil Eagleton (John, Fanny, Henry) was born on Oct. 12, 1903 in Nevada, Vernon Co., MO. He was enumerated with his parents in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. He moved to Michigan in the 1920s. On _________,1926/27 he married Elizabeth Ann “Elsie” Moore. The 1930 census of Muskegon Heights (part of Ward 2), Muskegon Co., MI showed their family living at 1516 Park St.:

Eagleton	Cecil	26	M-23	Mo.	Ill.	Iowa
Elizabeth A.	29	M-26	Pa.	Ger.	Ger.
Hartman	Ralph W.	12 Pa.	Pa.	Pa.

Cecil Eagleton’s occupation was described as “Iron worker, construction Co.”. Elizabeth A.’s occupation was described as “waitress, restaurant”. Ralph W. Hartman was identified as a son. He must have been Elizabeth’s son from an earlier marriage. Cecil Eagleton died on Mar. 25, 1975 in Farmington Hills, Oakland Co., MI and was buried in Mt. Hope Cem. in Charlton Twp., Otsego Co., MI.

obit>>

Elsie (Moore) Eagleton died on Aug. 2, 1990 in Farmington Hills, MI.

obit>>

Cecil Eagleton had two children: _____ and _____.
Cecil Eagleton was a first cousin to my grandfather, Joe Peterman, Jr. (1892-1969). You are a second cousin to my father, Raymond W. Peterman (1918-).

Cecil Eagleton is said to have cut most of his ties with the Eagleton family. I don't know why.

I have been tracing the Eagleton family for some time & have identified quite a few ancestors. Briefly, Cecil was a son of John Henry Eagleton (1855-1930), who was a son of Alexander Malcolm Eagleton (1827-1901), who was a son of James Eagleton (1794-1877), who was a son of David Eagleton (1748-1828). David was born in Scotland. He came to America prior to the Revolutionary War. He was a private in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. Both DAR & SAR recognize his service. He is buried in a Presbyterian Cem. in Maryville, TN.

If you are interested in more information, send me an e-mail: TEPeter100@aol.com

Timothy Peterman
Kansas City, MO

We are having a Girl Guard reunion at Jackie (Harter) Smittendorf's house on the 20th and it got me to thinking about you, Lillian and Anna Mae.
In a box of photos I gathered from my parents' home following my mother's passing, I found an old B&W photo of a man and woman standing outdoors near a dairy barn, with the simple inscription on the back, "Uncle and Aunt Skop".
I'm guessing the family connection is on the woman's side. Our family name is Szeglowski, and and my grandparents and others emigrated from the Tatra Mountain region and Cracow in the late 1800's and early 1900's. My grandmother's maiden name was Trzcieska.
Most of the Szeglowski family settled in the Buffalo, NY, area.

Dad Married Elsie Ann Moore in August of 1933.
Dad lived in Muskegon MI before moving to Otsego County MI where he met my mother.
I know almost nothing about my dad's family.
The Elizabeth A. marriage stumps me. To the best of my knowledge Dad was only married once and that was to my mother Elsie Ann Moore, in August of 1933. I was born in June of 1934. Dad was an iron worker.
There were three children from his marriage to Elsie.
Cecil, Gerald, and Jeannine

The Elizabeth part is the only thing that I see as a possible error.

Newspaper obituaries for 1898 in Vanderbilt for William J. Sly

Please, can anyone tell me whether a newspaper existed in Otsego County in 1898 that might have had obituaries? If so, is there microfilm available of it anywhere today? I am trying to find details about William J. Sly who was born in 1826 and died on 13 or 14 September 1898 in Vanderbilt. William is buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery (also called Vanderbilt Cemetery). Because I do not live in Michigan, I am unfamiliar with what newspapers might have existed in the area around 1898. Thanks for your suggestions!

I am a descendent of Alice Stidworthy (sometimes spelled Stidworthy) who was the daughter in law of Hudson Rutan.

Your information was great as I had been unable to locate any information about this descendent after 1880. She was the youngest sister of my great great grandmother, Mary Stidworthy Phillips.

If you would like any information about the Stidworthy line, please let me know.

Elizabeth
