I have hit some brick walls in my search for my Worthington ancestors and their families.
William and Robert Worthignton, whom I judge to be brothers, have been in Oakland County, Michigan, since 1850 and perhaps earlier. The earliest census record that I have been able to see so far is the 1850 one.
William Worthington, b ~1808 England, and his wife Emma, b ~1814 appear to have lived next door to Robert Worthington, b ~1804, his wife Hannah M van Buren, b ~1820, and their children, as follows.
William b ~1848 MI
Phila b ~1850 MI
John b ~1853 MI
Emma Jane b ~1855 MI
James H b ~1857 MI
Robert Eugene b ~1859 MI
George b ~1861 MI
James H Worthington married Lucinda Furgeson. Their only child was a son named William James Worthington, b ~1877. William married an unknown lady; and their daughter Ruth married Eli Pratt. After their divorce, he married Martha Westendorf. Their children were Vera, Dorothy, Powell, Eugene, and Helen. Lucinda subsequently remarried Oren Aumend. She retained William, and they also adopted a son named Curtis Aumend.
John Worthington seems to never have married. In 1910, he was working as a hired man for the Ellwood fmaily in Commerce Twp, Oakland Co, MI; and by 1920 he was an inmate at the Oakland County courthouse.
I cannot find William as a family man in census records from 1900 to 1920 and rather get him confused with another William Worthington who lived with either William or Robert Worthington (the elder) at times. I cannot seem to find either Phila or Emma Jane; and I cannot find mention of a Robert or George Worthington whose birth years match my two ancestorly relatives above in census records 1900 - 1920.
If anyone has any further genealogical information or anecdotal accounts of any of these persons or their descendants, please do let me know.
I am tagging surnames associated with this line, even though I have only mentioned a few. Subsequent posts should have further information and some images of census records. Any help will be much appreciated.
