Next month I will be visiting Skandia. My g-mother and g-grandmother (Elsie Norberg Larson and Johanna Norberg) are buried in the old Swedish Lutheran Church Cemetery. I'd like to visit the grave site but am not sure how to get to the cemetery.

I visited the church and cemetery in the 1960s but am sorry to say I do not remember how to get there now. I was a kid at the time. Once at the church I could walk to the grave. Unfortunatly the last time my Dad and his cousin visited he had a tombstone installed. He said they did not install it in the correct grave site.

Can anyone give me directions to the old church?
Is there an online listing of who is buried in the cemetery?
I'll be looking for the Norberg and Danielson family information.
Any suggestions of what else I should visit while in Skandia?

I will be checking out the Marquette History Library.

Johanna Matilde Norberg
DOB 23 Aug 1854
DOD June 4, 1915

Elsie C Norberg Larson
DOB 17 Jul 1895
DOD 26 Jun 1957

Johanna and Elsie share a grave site.

Anders Albert Norberg
DOB 23 Dec 1897
DOD unk at this posting

Elsie's brother, Dan Norberg married his cousin Hilma Danielson on 23 April 1910

Thanks for your interest.
I am currently researching Marquette County for Telesphore Tousignant (1861-1918) and wife Elizabeth Roi (1866-1943). They had 14 children. Eldest son Wilfred had 14 children. Their youngest son, Harry is 96 years old living in florida. He says Elizabeth died on Dec. 5, 1943 in Gwinn, Mich. but the Records in Lansing state there is no such person. Harry says the Telesphore also went by "John" and Elizabeth's last name as "King". Very confusing. Does anyone have info re: where they were married (unable to locate in Quebec)-found their birth records. Telesphore death record listed name as "Talis". Also any info on Elizabeth death record. I do have extensive family info to share.
Hello, my great-grandmother was Hazel Fassbender. She was born 21 Jun 1889 in Marquette. Her parents were John Christian Fassbender and Clara Pierce. I don't know much about her family but when I go to Marquette I see a lot of Fassbender buildings and have always been curious about if and how we are connected.

Thank you

I am looking for the birth date of my uncle's brother, August Nyman. From the 1900 Census, he was born August 1887 in Michigan. As his father August Nyman filed his Declaration of Intent in Marquette County before moving to Minnesota, I would hope that August, the son, was born there. Is there anyone who is interested in doing a look-up at the Marquette County Courthouse? I don't want a copy, just a complete date. Mother's name was Kaisa. Parents were from Finland. I would be most grateful. I am willing to reimburse for any reasonable expenses as I live out-of-state.

I am searching for any information on Ester Estella Lindstrom (and her family) born about 1903 in Ishpeming, Marquette, Michigan to Theodor Lindstrom (b. Jul 1863, Sweden/d. between 1913 and 1919, Ishpeming, Marquette, Michigan) and Anna M. Logren (?) (b. Jan 1868, Sweden/d. ?). Theodor immigrated to America in 1884 and was naturalized (but a year was not specified on the Census) and Anna immigrated to America in 1882 and was naturalized in 1889. They married in Michigan in 1889. Theodor was an iron ore miner. In 1900, they lived at 308 Ceder Street, Ishpeming, Michigan and from 1910 until 1930 they lived at 133 Cliff Street, Ishpeming, Michigan. Theodor is not listed in the 1920 or 1930 Censuses but Anna is with new husband William Carlson.

Their children are as follows:
1) Elfie Lindstrom (b. Oct 1890, Michigan)
2) Theodora Lindstrom (b. Sep 1892, Michigan)
3) Lillian Lindstrom (b. Aug 1894, Michigan)
4) Paulina Lindstrom (b. 1 Sep 1896, Michigan)
5) Mertia Lindstrom (b. Apr 1898, Michigan)
6) Ester Estella Lindstrom
7) Theodor Lindstrom, Jr. (b. abt 1904, Michigan)
8) Florence Lindstrom (b. abt 1908, Michigan)
9) Frederick Lindstrom (b. abt 1914, Michigan)

Ester Estella Lindstrom married William Edward Morrow on 9 Jan 1919 in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. She was 16 at the time and needed permission which was delivered by Lillian Lindstrom and Dora Johnson (whom I think might be her sister Theodora). In 1920, they were in Geneva Townshiop, Walworth, Wisconsin where my grandfather, Robert Frederick Morrow was born (b. 13 Jan 1920/d. 20 Nov 1979, Waco, McClellan, Texas). They had another child, as well, William Edward Pifer Morrow (b. 29 Aug 1924, Eureka, Woodford, Illinois/ d. Colorado). In April 1926, they were divorced where she did not show up to court and the judge banned her from contact with the children--though, she did try to take the baby when she determined to leave her first husband because she had fallen in love with another man. In July 1926, she married a Milo Wold (b. in Montana) in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. In the 1930 Census, Milo Wold is listed as single living in a boarding house. Ester is not with him and I haven't been able to find her. I was wondering if anyone could help me (it seems that she might have had a reputation of sorts)find anything about her or her family--especially her parents.

Sorry this is so long, but thanks in advance.
Cheryl

My great grandfather SAMUEL GOODMAN, b. February 22, 1836, immigrated to Hancock, Pewabic neighborhood, from somewhere in Cornwall in 1872. He was married at the time to ELIZABETH MAKER, b. March 01, 1840. He apparently worked in the Pewabic Mine since this is the birth place listed for children born after they arrived. My grandfather William was one of eight children, the older born in Cornwall, younger born in Pewabic. The whole family moved to Marquette county to Ishpeming sometime after 1886 to 614 Wabash. The children were:

GEORGIE GOODMAN, b. unknown, m. THOMAS EDDY, d. unknown; JANE ANN GOODMAN, b. unknown, m. CHAS HAWES, d. unknown;
RICHARD GOODMAN; b. unknown, m. unknown, d. unknown; WILLIAM BROAD GOODMAN, b. April 01, 1866, Cornwall, England; , m. MARY ANN MARTIN, d. September 16, 1941, Negaunee, Michigan;
EMMA ELIZABETH GOODMAN, b. January 08, 1871, Scotland (?), m. ERNEST O. BENGRY; d. July 18, 1926, Ishpeming, Michigan;
JOHN GOULD GOODMAN, b. September 16, 1873, Pewabic, Michigan; m. AGNES DUBOIS, d. May 22, 1956, Ishpeming, Michigan;
SAMUEL GOODMAN, b. December 05, 1881, Pewabic, Michigan; d. February 19, 1955, Ishpeming, Michigan;
ETTIE GOODMAN, b. April 04, 1886, Pewabic, Michigan; m. CHRISTOPHER JOHN LAWRY, d. February 05, 1969, Ishpeming, Michigan.

My grandfather William Broad Goodman was the Captain of the Mary Charlotte Mine. His brother John Gould manufactured White Ash cigars in Ishpeming.

I am especially trying to discover where in England the Goodmans emmigrated from, but an also interested in any anecdotes or other information. Thank you.

My great-grandmother Elsie Mae Dishno (Dishneau in some sources) (b. July 19 1902) lists her place of birth on her application for a social security account number as Champion, Marquette, Michigan. Her parents are listed as Napolean Dishno (d. 1902) and Delia Blake (b. 1878, d. 1957). A cousin of mine has told me that Napolean Dishno's parents were Joseph Dishneau and Philomen Dahia and that he had many siblings including Tuffil, Philomen, Josephine, Joseph Fred, Edward, Albert and Adam. Any information regarding the Dishno, Blake and Dahia would be appreciated.

HAM, Charles died May 1911, Marquette Co., Ishpeming

Looking for any information on Charles Ham b. 1825 England, who died May 1911 in Ishpeming, Marquette Co, MI. He was married to Margaret Fisher who also died in Ishpeming. Does anyone have cemetery/burial records from Ishpeming? They had at least one son, Charles Henry b. Oct 12,1859 in Copper Falls, MI., who married Caroline Inman b. Mar 24, 1862. Charles Sr. was born in England (unknown where in England)and assume that he came to upper Michigan as a miner in the 1850's and perhaps there are some mine records, somewhere, perhaps in Copper Falls? I live in Texas and cannot be there to research my gt.gt grandfather and would very much like to learn more. Please pass this on to any genealogical society in Ishpeming or Copper Falls. My grandfather, Charles Inman Ham was born in Ishpeming, Dec 15 1882, he married Elizabeth Mary Jory of Calumet, MI.

On Febuary of this year my grandfather has just pasted away leaving may question unanswered about his mother's (Hilia Kantola) side (Peura) and is father's (George)side (Kantola). Both side came from finland and settled in Upper Michigan in Marquette County. I know that his that his grandfather (Herman) Kantola was in the Russian army. I guess Herman came to America when he ran from the army.But on his mothers side we know his grandfather (Jacob) Peura took his wife's last name. They had five children Nestor, Jaffet, Herman, Reino, and Hilia. We also know that Hilia was related to a Reino Maki thought his mother. Also there is one more person that is a Mystery. Frank Teppala was buired in a family lot of the Peura for reasons unknown to us. Any information on these people will be a blessing to my family and will help in are search for are family roots.
John's first wife was Sarah Gammon (died approx.1857 in England and the sister of Elizabeth Gammon Pope). They had a daughter, Sarah Ann Gammon. John remarried Mary Bond. John and Mary had 2 daughters, Mary Ann (who I believe died in England as a child) and Catherine. John, Mary, Sarah Ann, Catherine as well as William Gundry and his wife, Catherine immigrated in 1874. I have found John and Mary in the 1880 census for Ishpeming, Marquette, Michigan, but not any of the children. Any information, please contact me.
Thanks.

I am looking for any clues to finding a minister who married my gguncle Lars Larson and Sophia Amnell in Nov 1887 in Ishpeming, MI. Marriage license has him listed as M. Stulfer. No church given. He does not show up in any Swedish Lutheran churches at that time. A witness was a H Stulfer, which was probably his wife and a Caroline Millwierz. They may have been married in a rectory and not in the church. Any help greatly appreciated.

I am looking for the deaths of Gustaf Holmberg, born 30 May 1852 in Lindesberg, Örebro, Sweden and his wife Hanna Matilda Källgren Holmberg, born 8 Dec 1861 in Gryt, Södermanland, Sweden. They emigrated to Ishpeming, MI in 1887. Two of their children show in the 1900 census for Ishpeming, Marquette, MI living with their grandparents, Lars and Sophia (Källgren) Larson. I assume they died between 1891-1900. The youngest child, Edith K Holmberg was 9 in 1900. There also was an infant, Gustaf W Holmberg when they emigrated. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hendrickson, Saastamoinen, Marquette County

My family settled in Marquette County around the turn of the 1900 century. I am looking for links to my grandfater Peter (Pekka) Hendrickson (Saastamoinen) who came to America from Keitele, Kuopio, Finland. Family stories suggest his parents Heikki and Eriika may have arrive erlier than 1900 but can't confirm this. We are looking for family of any brothers or sisters of Peter (b1881) or any links or information to his parents. My dad Henry Theodor(b1916) and his brother Albert (b1913)were born in Champion and Ishpeming while sister Lydia was born in Humbolt, Mi in 1907. Albert died in Chicago in June 1982 and that family search is on also. Possible family member Konstantin Saastamoinen (b1879)also fron Keitele was issued the passort number just prior to my grandfather on the same day.

Living cousins in Negaunee have provied extensive information on other families listed and we would like to collaborate with others.

I went to the "Find A Grave" site and they have listed a Holy Cross Cemetery, Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan and a Holy Cross Cemetery, Trowbridge Park, Marquette County, Michigan. They are the same cemetery aren't they?? I was going to add my family but found this confusing.
Thanks,
Sue
