Thank you Alicia, some of those are very helpful! Some of them were not the same family-via the dates are off by 10 years or more for age, but still helpful knowing that there were more Moss familys-maybe relitives! Who knows!

Hello-
My name is Amanda and I am looking for my G.G.G. grandmother's family-she and her parents. Her name is Mary Moss. Her fathers name I have found to be two different names. I don't know if they were different men or the same just going by first and middle names. Fathers name was a Gilbert and/or Joseph Moss (though I believe that Gilbert is the more correct of the two). Mothers name was Louise Farley. Mary was born abt 1877 in Canada as were her parents. They moved to MI. in the early 1880's. BUT I CAN'T FIND THEM ANYWHERE!!!! I have found traces of her brothers and sisters in other places of WI and MI. but none of her parents.

I would really like to find out where exactly in Canada the family was from and ideally-her fathers correct name! :) I don't have any Census info with her on it with her parents. She was married to a Frank Vaniea in April 1895 in Ewen, MI. I am checking here as a sister of hers was supposedly born here; Annie Moss was born (according to a marriage cert. in Googibic County) in Neagaunee, Marquette, MI. I was hoping that maybe someone on this board would please find pity on me and help me....I have been looking for years and can't find anything on this family!

If it helps her brothers and sisters names are: Paul Moss; Joseph Moss; Louise (Moss) Beckman; and Anna (Moss) Huntsinger,Peterson, Dietz. -Yes, Anna was married three times! If someone could check the register of Deeds office for the name of "MOSS" on the birth, marriage and death records???? Naturalization records-ANYTHING!!! I can't travel that far to go there myself and I know that MI records are pretty sensitive to people looking them up over the phone. Any help would be most appreciated! Thank you so much anyone who can help me!

Amanda Koch-
putznme@hotmail.com

Felix Nault/Neau 1849-1884 grave in Negaunee, MI??

I was wondering if anyone lived near Negaunee, MI and would be willing to try to find a grave and/or obit for me.

My great-great-great grandfather was Felix Nault. He is listed on a 1880s census as Felix Neau with his wife, Josephine and their 3 children (Exceldia, Alvina, and Arsen) in Negaunee, MI.

According to the family history, Felix died in 1884 in Trois Rivieres, Canada but that doesn't make much sense. His wife, Josephine (Peppin) Nault remarried a Peter Rail in 1891 and had a daughter, Delia Rail in Michigan and then moved to Ashland, WI. I am guessing that Felix died sometime between 1881 and 1890.

Felix went by different names:

Philias Nault, Felix Nault, Felix Neau, and Philias Neau.

An obit look-up or grave location would be great. Also, his father, Joseph Neau/Nault (born 1818) was living with them as well, so his grave would be bonus. I'm guessing he died between 1881 and 1890 as well.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
This is what I have - August Wilhelm Doro was born about 1842 in Fullnow Prussia. He married Martha (Augusta) Kanitz (Kernatz) in Kitzow, Prussia around 1864. They had five children born in Germany, Albert William (Alf), Amelia Theresa Albertina (Emilie) and Herman Charles, two other children, one male, one female having died prior to the family leaving Germany, a sister left Germany about the same time but I do not have any details of where she went. On the 15th June 1877 the family left Hamburg onboard the Fritz Reuter/Fritzrecken bound for Australia. At the time of departure August & Augusta were 36yrs old, Albert was 11 years, Emilie was 8 years and Herman was 3 years old. They arrived in Rockhampton on the 6th October 1877. They are recorded on the shipping records under Darow. It appears the family made their way to Brisbane as their next child, Emil, was born at the Lady Bowen Hospital, Brisbane on the 5th November 1877. Emil Ameile Doro married Emilie Lousie Wilhelmina Hess - my Grandparents.
In my mother's letters there was a letter from
Senor Albert Kanitz or Senor Oilbert Kanitz,
- Blumanau, Estds.
- Santa Catharina,
- Brazil.
I do not know where this fits in.
I have a copy of the death certificate for Augusta Martha Kowitz she died on 1-11-1919 in the Toowoomba Hospital, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.
Please let me know if you have any other information which may help.
Thanks
Sandra
I do not have anything else but I am interested in your family. They sound like they might somehow be related. The name Kowitz is also familiar in this area of Illinois. Any Dorow info would be appreciated.

Sincerely, Sandra

You would be dealing with the Americanization of their names. The reasons:

The Census indicates that the couple married in 1878.

I have often seen Onesime become James in the US. Here is an example [not your Onesime]:
Onesime James Nault
Birth: 14 Feb 1854
Death: 30 Oct 1914

In Arthur's marriage record, his Mother is given as: ...xilda St.Mars.

Email me at joyness@optonline.net if you want further info.
Chris

Hi,
I have just joined Ancestry and saw your message. My GG Grandfather was August Wilhelm Doro b 1842 Fullnow Prussia married to Augusta Martha Kowitz (there are many variations to this surname and I don't know for sure which is correct) she was born on 31-8-1840 in Falkenberg,Pomerania Prussia, Germany and married in April 1866 in Kitzow,Prussia. They had a daughter Amelia Theresa Albertina Dorow (note surname change)plus six other sons. The two eldest children Albert William Doro and Amelia Theresa Albertina Dorow were born in Fullnow, Prussia and they moved to Australia in 1877.
I am trying to find more information on this family and their parents. Do you think we have the same person?
Thanks
Sandra

Hello Mr. LaForais:

Nice to hear from you. God...I love this program. Yes, I am working on this family. It's for my niece Mary Nelson. Her grandmother was Guillimene (Agnes) Laforais daughter of Louis Laforais, born 1850 St. Lin, Quebec, Canada and Wilhelmina Marceau born 1861 Canada. I have a wonderful portrait(copy) of the family that includes:Louie, Luella, Wilhemia, Joseph, Louis II, Jennie, and Ursula. I just kept the duplicate copy and gave the original picture to Mary and her sister Gail. There are six children and her family. Do you think I can help you? You may have been researching longer than me so not sure of that. I guess there was a book written by one of the cousins, but I don't have it. The Historical Society mentioned it to me. I would be willing to share information. anelson1@jamadots.com

You have contacted my wife, Ganey, directly, but I would be glad, for the sake of other Stensaas genealogists, to answer questions in this forum about the descendants of Anders Jensen Stensaaslokken, whose oldest son was Jens Stensaas.

Ganey's family is given correctly in the earlier posting here. Her father, "Lud," returned to Ishpeming, Marquette County, Michigan from Ionia and lived the rest of his life there, dying 3 Sept. 1978. He and several of his siblings are buried in the Ishpeming City Cemetery. Ganey's mother, Rose Manzoline (1924-1996), was his second wife. He had no children by his first wife. Ganey's siblings Scott Stensaas, JoAnn Cobb, and John Stensaas are living and in regular contact with us.

Found some info for you. Agnes died in 1967, no married name. A Norman L. Stensas is listed. died 9/78. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1923. There are four others listed. Scott grad. 68',Ganey 70',JoAnn 74' and Jon 76'. In 2000 Scott lived in Flint, and Jon lived in Negaunee. Ganey married a Sam Mozley and lives in Raleigh, NC., and JoAnn married a Daniel Cobb and lives in Belmont, Ca. I could probably get in contact with them. I have the 2005-2006 phone book that covers from Houghton area to Gwinn (North/South) and from Ontonagon to Munising (west/East) and there are no Stensas listed. There could be some in area but not listed or the parents are dead. You can check with the Ishpeming cemetery for info. Need more info? get in touch. Oscar Stensas sounds familiar to me. Grew up In Ishpeming and remember Ganey.
Thank you very much. Norman L. Stensaas is probably Ludvig Norman Stensaas born Ishpeming December 31st 1904. The last I know about him is that he is a teacher in Ionia City, Ionia Co, MI in 1930.
Yes I would like to make contact with the people you mention if it's possible.
Jens Stensaas died in 1911. He had a son Olaf before he emigrated to USA i 1882. Descendants of Olaf would like to know about the rest of the family. Therefore I need all the information you can give me.
My email: jon.bakken@vktv.no

I have the 1926 newspaper clipping on William Tippett and his brother Walter. They were in my Grandmother's Bible, but have no idea who they were or how she knew them.

Quote
LOST TWO SONS

1) Photo of Capt William TIppett and Mother
2) Photo of Walter Tippett

Two stalwart sons in the Tippett family of Ishpeming, were killed in the Barnes-Hecker mine disaster Wednesday. One was William Tippett, Captain of the mine and the other, his brother Walter, who had started his first day of work in the Barnes-Hecker only a few hours before the cave-in. Captain Tippett's body was one of the seven recovered Wednesday, but Walter's is still in the mine.
UNQUOTE

That will be great to share it and thank-you. Goodness, we had it in the family Bible and had no idea why my Grandmother carried it inside. Her name was Margaret Veronica Legault before she married my Grandfather and became Igoe. I know she lived in Republic MI and Wakefield, but we had no idea how she knew the TIppett's.

Such a sad thing to happen indeed.

I think it would be Adleore Lafreniere and his wife Rose Lafreniere ( Champeau ). I bet that was the uncle they were talking about. Adelore worked for the mines at that point in life then they moved to bark river and had a big farm.
I have more information if you need it. Please email at SCSULLIVAN82@HOTMAIL.COM for more information
