Died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in Veterans Hospital in Battle Creek after an extended illness. Mr. Volkenant was born December 28, 1943 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to the late Harold and Evelyn (Goodar) Volkenant. He married Nancy Warren in Port Huron on July 26, 1986. Bob worked as a service technician for Horibia Instruments in Ann Arbor for over 20 years. He graduated from Armada High School in 1962 and attended St. Clair County Community College and Western Michigan University. He was a former member of United Methodist Church in Romeo and had a passion for Corvettes and fixing anything pertaining to cars. He was very instrumental in the C.C.R.A. (Concerned Citizens of Rural Awareness) program in the staggering of the power lines away from houses in Richmond Township. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War. While on active duty Bob received his training as a nuclear technician at the University of Maryland. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; Children, Jeffrey of Troy and Kimberly (Randy) Powell of St. Clair Shores; step-children, Todd (Megan) Bartley of Port Orange, Florida and Katherine (Matt) Leclercq of Kalamazoo; siblings, James (MaryLou) Volkenant and SueAnn (Warren) Burman both of Richmond; grandchildren, Noah, Joshua and Zachary Bartley and Alex and Jillian Leclercq and former wife and mother of his children, Barbara Anderson of Gary, Indiana. A funeral service will be on Wednesday March 26, 2008 at 10 AM in the Romeo United Methodist Church. Reverend Gary Glanville, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. Visiting will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 PM, in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10 AM in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Association of Frontotemporal Dementios, 1616 Walnut St. Suite 1100, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or VA Hospital, Ward 83-1, Battle Creek, MI 49037.
