I have some information shared with me by Mary Spieles, Jacob's second wife. His first wife died - they had three children - Elwell (Babe); Wally and Charles. Jacob and Mary had four children - Mary Ann, Peter, Angeline and Thomas. We have contact with Charles and his family, but have lost touch with the families of Elwell (Babe) and Wally, both of whom are deceased. As far as I know, there were two marriages - Jacob married Mary after his first wife died. And there were seven children. He rented cabins in St Ignace. Would like to share information.

Faith, I have the st. annes cd and believe I have the entry for the baptism of your Marguerite Rousseau, the parents appear to be Augustin Rousseau and Marguerite Champagne. The baptism occurred in 1825 and it is listed as the 5th entry of the year. I apologize if you already have this info. I saw a couple more entries with these same parents, apparently there was a Michael baptized in 1823. You can contact me through email if you would like any more info.;)

Marie (Mary) Rousseau, dau. of Augustin Rousseau. It has been listed in "The Wisconsin Creoles" as the father being Pierre Laframboise, m. NE SET (Lizette) Elizabeth and that they had four sons:
Jean Baptiste
Moses
Jacob
Peter

Lately, it has been brought to light that may be wrong, that a M. Joseph Laframboise is the father, m. Veronique (Koekoseque) "Monique" b. abt 1785, and that they had several children:
Francois Xavier b. 1816
Louis b. 1820
Mary Elizabeth b. 1824
Marie Anne b. 1827
Jean Bte. b. 1826/7
Moyse (Moses) b. 1831
Maria b. 1836
Amable b. 1836

Listed as grandparents are:
Louis Charbonneau
Maria Maccabee
Michael Maccabee,
Marie Anna Housduekou
Joanne Baptiste Koraskak
Pelagia Lariche
John Chalifoux
Christina Rousseau (Mary/Marie Rousseau/Augustin Rousseau's dau. - Never married
Louisa Brunette

Does anyone have a breakdown of the Marchand/Chatelain/de Tilly children born into the Fafard-Laframboise families?

Thank you for any help.

Karen
denniskaren@earthlink.net

My cousin gave me pages out of a book (I do not know its name) The pages were about Cooperage Mill( the pages are numbered 215,216,217), of which my ancestors traveled from Kentucky to work at. Now that the background is in there, I need two things: does anyone know the name of the book this information came from? Also she gave me a picture titled "Inside the Cooperage Mill", I am wondering if there is a place or someone who knows the names of the people in the picture? Thank you.

I posted yesterday about George Whitcomb. I think I found the death certificate of his mother in law Hilma Nelson 8/21/1903 at Portage(the Nelson family vanishes after 1900 - 8 children and the 2 parents are nowhere to be found - only George's wife Esther). Anyway, this death certificate says burial was at Scotts Point. Is there a cemetery there?

Minor update on the VALIER family:

Thomas VALIER/VALLIER(E) m. to Mary LAMARBE were married in Schoolcraft Co. Still don't know who parents are.

Sophia VALIER/VALLIER(E) [she is a dau. of Thomas Sr. & sister to Thomas Jr. below], b. c. 1836, m. to _____ SAWYER. She had a dau. Maria CHEESEMAN. Maria's maiden name was SAWYER & she married an Alexander CHEESEMAN. I do not know who Alexander is, nor have any idea yet who Mr. SAWYER is.

While Thomas VALIER b. c. 1849 is probably the son of Thomas Sr., the Durant Field Notes say Thomas Jr. (prob. husband of Marianne MARTIN, d/o Antoine & Louise PAQUIN) was separated from his wife and only gives two children:
Thomas b. c. 1872 (as opposed to the 1880 census one b. c. 1877) & a Martha, b. c. 1874 m. to _____ WARD. (She is not being mentioned in 1880 census, unless she is Louisa) so I am still trying to find some more documentation to prove they are one and the same Thomas. Anyone have any obits, photos, church records, etc? The VALIERs were apparently members of St. Ignatius at St. Ignace..

Also have a James N. VALLIER, b. 1858/9 (s/o Sam & Margaret) who married Kate _____. Had at least 2 children: Maggie aka Madge who married George GAMBLE and William. Would like to know Kate's maiden name & parents and
whether she & James had other children.

Thanks, Jim.

I only have a bit that Jim didn't show earlier.

The Mormon Pilot site shows the death of Orson as d 23 Apr 1894 at age 84 year, 11 mon, 12 days. Or born 11 May 1809. It shows him as married so Emily was still alive. The deaths there aren't posted after 1897

On my Orin Campbell who married Bahama Rice I have the note.
"He is the son of Orson Campbell and Emily. Orson and Emily Campbell were involved in the Bloomer protest on Beaver Island. Emily joined other island women in not wearing them- men who "did not control their wifes" in this matter were punished...usually by a whip.

There is an interesting small book you probably can find on Amazon. "A Child of the Sea" by Elizabeth Whitney Williams about living on Beaver Island. It mentions "Mrs Campbell and daughter Mary" on pages 185-200. Maybe more but I caught that on a quick look. Talks about Mrs Campbell coming from NY. If you haven't read any of the other material on King Strang you might. I didn't copy many Campbell references as my main interest in the RICE family. I do have all I can find on the descendants of Orin Campbell and Bahama Rice.
Mary Lou

Hi there,

I am really struggling to find any more information on both Orson Austin Campbell and his wife Emily Campbell.

I would like to find out Emily's maiden name and her parents name. But most of all any more information on Orson Austin Campbell would be greatly appreciated. All I have is that OA Campbell was born in 1809 in NY.

Thanks!
Tavis Campbell

Does anyone have a picture of it?? Uncle Willis Taylor died leaving "no known relatives" according to his obit, but I know the bar was inherited by Margaret Latham Kerr, and that she worked there at some point. Hopefully somebody knows something of this place? Thanks Lori

He was married to Elizabeth Willan from 1831-1853, then he married Anne Sheldon Quick (previously m. to John Quick)in 1853. He had 7 children by Eliz. Willan, and 7 children by Anne . I come down from Hugh and Anne. My gr-grandmother was Lucinda McDonald. The Mac was changed to Mc after Hugh arrived in Canada. I have a lot of info on the McDonalds.

Adella McDonald was my Great Grandmother; she married Watson J Clark and my Grandmother was Edith E Clark who married Julius B Kirby and my mother was Pauline Clark Kirby. My sister and I both had to give reports in school on Sir John but when I started researching the family I could not find the link. We were beginning to think our mother who prided herself on telling the truth might have stretched it a bit with this one. I would love to share anything I have, although you probably have much more to share than I do. You may contact me directly at gmarockson@gmail.com

Thank you.

Trying to determine if this individual was of any relationship to my Wendell family in the Albany, New York area. He was born there on 25 April 1832. Apparently he went to Mackinac Island as a child/young adult with his family. Does anyone have any information on who his parents may have been. Know that his home there is now a B & B.

Thank you for any help.

Jane, I was reading your post and I too am tracing our roots with Sir John A. MacDonald. My GGGGrandfather was a first cousin as well. His name was John. We believe his father was Alexander, brother to Hugh (father to Sir John.) You stated you have lot of information on the MacDonalds and was wondering if you could share it?

Contact www.stignacenews. This is a weeklly publication and should have info you seek. Try the St. Ignace Public Library (906)643-8318. Their archives have records of old papers and I've always found them very helpful. Hope this helps.

Dear Diane:
I"m very happy for you. I research the many branches of my family and appreciate information received from other helpful researchers. Many of my ancestors lived in Michigan's UP. I was raised in St. Ignace and have always kept in touch with friends and family.
Your success has made this a very special 92nd birthday for me. Ruthie.
