My ancestor, William McA. Dey (1793-1874), moved to Livingston County in the late 1840s and settled in Handy Township. He had a son, Pierson W. Dey (1827-1902) to whom his Bible went (according to his Will), and from Pierson it went to his oldest son George Augustus Dey (1850-1924). I know this because the Bible was cited as proof of Pierson's age in about 1900 when he was applying for a Civil War pension. (I got a copy of his application from the National Archives.)
I have been searching for the Bible for years because I am descended from Pierson's younger sister Susan Dey (born 1832, died about 1860/61) who married Allan (or Almon?) WOODARD. Susan left virtually no public records of her life so I have only estimates for her marriage and death dates. (Also her husband is my worst brick wall ancestor.)
William McA. Dey's will named Henry and Fred Woodard, "the legal heirs of my daughter Susan Woodard, deceased." Fred was my great-grandfather. Surely Susan's dates are in that Bible, and perhaps other useful information.
I have recently learned that an unpublished genealogy of this Livingston Co. family was prepared in 1938 and the original of it was in the possession of Theodore Dey of Fowlerville. Unfortunately he died in 1997 and I have no contacts in Livingston County. I would love to locate it and be able to get a copy since it might be partly based on the Bible records.
I was also told that there was a "scroll" of a family tree which was displayed at Dey family reunions in Fowlerville. I am very interested in locating that, too. Every little hint might be helpful. If anyone reads this and can help, PLEASE do, I would be very grateful.
