South Attica Cemetery has a few mysteries... a couple that have baffled me for months, even years.

1. I have what I call "The Pile". It's a set of headstones that match, all the same height, width, thickness and color. They don't have any dates or surnames. All they have are the 1st names carved on the top. These are: JB, Eugene, Elizabeth, Francis, Burton, Althier, Orlin and Duane. So far I have not run across a family that has an Althier in it. That name is unusual.

2. Lot owners with no known burials: ATWELL, BLOW, HAZZARD, HOSSACK, PERRY, and WYMAN. All of these families lived in the area for some time.

3. People that I say most likely are there but don't have the proof or no other burial is known: Carrie C ALYEA, Homer S BEARDSLEY, Harold Dean CREAMER, Elizabeth CUSICK, Pardon DALEY, Joseph DEMAW, Evelyn DICKSON, James FENNER, Betsy FISHELL, Michael FISHELL, Alfaretta GORDINEER, Elford HARTSELL, Charles HEBARD, Alice Eva HENDERSON, babies David C and George HENDERSON, Sarah LANCASTER, William W MILLER, Nelly MITCHELL, Henry MOTT, Kesia PECK (controversy from obit), Adelia REDMAN, son of James RUSSELL, Juliaetta SPENCER, Lenora SPENCER, Ruby SPENCER, George STANTON and Garret WARNER.

4. People have said there may be a SWAIN or a RAYMENT buried in SAC. So far no information supporting this has surfaced, but I have only read every death record at the Lapeer County Clerk's office from 1867 thru 1945.

5. In the fencerow jsut to the west of the YOUNGS lot is a stone that only reads "Mother". The YOUNGS family call her "Poor Aunt Rose", which Rose in the family is unclear and even if this really is her. No ownership was given to that lot. The stone material is the kind that was used around 1900-1920, but this doesn't necessarily date the death. A marker can be placed at any time.

6. Someone who was 60 years old died 6 Jan 1871. Unknown of gender or name. Searched Lapeer deaths and found nothing even close.
