Re: VanLieren Family

I am no relation to this family.

Pieter van Lieren was born 9 January 1839 in Wissenkerke, province of Zeeland, the Netherlands; son of Marinus van Lieren and Alida de Nooijer.

Sara Boot was born 21 October 1848 in Wissenkerke, province of Zeeland, the Netherlands; daughter of Cornelis Boot and Jacoba Pieternella Johannisse.

Pieter and Sara arrived in the USA in 1873. They were married in Kent County, Michigan (Kent County, Michigan Marriage Books 1867-1877, Book 4, page 92). My guess is that they were married in 1873.

Pieter was married once before. What was unusual was that his divorce from his first wife (Anna Magdalena de Ronde) was not finalized until 19 December 1873. There is no doubt in my mind that Pieter and Sara knew each other prior to leaving for America. Maybe that was the reason for Pieter's divorce from Anna? Pure speculation that there was an affair between Pieter and Sara but things do add up to that. That they took off to America together in 1873 and married here is another indication that things were happening between them before Pieter's divorce was finalized in late 1873.

In her post in 2003, Janet stated that daughter "Olive" was born in 1873. There is no doubt that she was Pieter's and Sara's first child and that she was born in 1873 or 1874. In the 1880 census, the family is living in Robinson Township, Ottawa County, Michigan. They have 4 children: "Alace", 6 (could this be "Olive"?); Cornelius, 5; Manus, 4; and Jennie, 2. I think the first daughter was named after Pieter's mom, Alida. Cornelius is named after Sara's dad, Cornelis. Manus is a derivative of Pieter's father Marinus.

At this time I do not know when Pieter died but it seems he died before the 1900 census as he is not listed on that census and Sara(h) is listed as head of household although not as a widow but still listed as married. Sara(h) is also in the 1920 census living with son Peter.

Hello, we are related. I was searching the Wallace side of my family. Donald Roy Wallace is my great grandfather. My name is Chris Palmer, I am the son of Denise May Daniels, daughter of Lillian Glenadine Wallace and Virgil James Daniels. Lillian is the daughter of Donald Roy Wallace. I have traced beyond that to Roy Amasa Wallace then Amasa Elaska Wallace then John Buck Wallace then Samuel Alexander Wallace who I believe was born in Scotland. I have also found reference to the Wallace line coming from England.
Any information would be appreciated.

Please let me know if you find his grave, and if you do can you send me a photo? I found his wife's, Elizabeth's death certificate online, but not his. She is buried in Paris. A while back someone from Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness tried to help but couldn't find anything.
He was listed in the 81st as John Dryde or Driet. The 1890 Vet Census has him saying when he enlisted they got his name wrong because he could not understand English. He was wounded in the neck & arm. I don't know when or where. Stated he was a sailor when he enlisted. He appiled for a pension, but didn't receive one. His widow appiled for one also, and also didn't receive one. Either they thought he was not disabled from his wounds, or there may be some other reason.
Please let me know how you make out. My e-mail is ted81pa@ptd.net. You can contact me there.
Ted
81st PVI

Thank you Thomas for your reply and suggested resources - they were helpful!

I am still wondering if there were any organized churches in or around Pinora 1870-98 and if so what were the names of the churches and does anyone know where the records of those early churches may be? My ancestors were Juliett Ervin married to Elisha Dunning. Juliett died in 1870 at Pinora and Elisha is said to have lived in Pinora in 1880 and dying in 1897, unknown where he died. Thanks for any church names/info you can share.

There he lost his companion, and then as his children were married and gone, he went to live with a daughter near Crystal Lake, Michigan, Montcalm Co., and last spring moved with them to Chase, Lake County, where he died las Sabbath at 84 years.
Dear MaryFreel,

Lake City is located in Missaukee County, Michigan several counties north and east of Lake County.

Check "Michigan Births, 1867-1902" at FamilySearch.org:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=https%3A...

Has digital images of original birth registers (state duplicate).

Also check the Missaukee Co. GenWeb site at: http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/missaukee/

I suspect that Bertha's 1884 birth was not recorded. Registration compliance before 1914 was low and many births were not recorded.

Good luck

Jan Tripp
There's a genealogy.com site for the descendants of one Robert Cushman that shows Bethia Cushman married a Philander Pratt in 1864. So I'm not sure if the Philander in Michigan is the same Philander Pratt that married E. White.
