To Anyone With Knowledge of the Copper Country History:

I am trying to trace what happened to the children of Joel A. Vaughn and his wife Polly Johnston Vaughn, who were the founders of Vaughnville, also called Vaughnsville, and Vansville. Joel died in 1862, and Polly in 1863, which left their eight children orphans. The land which Vaughnville sat upon had been tentatively arranged to be sold when Polly died. Her probate file reveals there was a dispute about the terms, which were eventually ironed out in court. The children were in birth order: Ephraim born 1845, Charles R. born 1846, Eunice Louisa born 1848, Alseba born 1851, Joel born 1853, Mary Ann born 1855, James born 1857, and Samuel born 1860. I have figured out where Ephraim and Charles died, but the rest are mysteries. I also know that Eunice married Judson E. Ayers in Ishpeming in 1873, and Alseba married J.W. Chiles in Ishpeming in 1880. Mary Ann married Peter James Bennet in Escanaba in 1881, and they ended up in Arizona where he edited a newspaper. I found his death date, but not hers! I am collaterally related to this family and would appreciate hearing from any descendants.
