Mother of 6 killed in Crash - Grand Rapids Herald, March 23, 1958, Page 1

Mrs. Earl (Wyola) SPAANSTRA, 30, of 3309 Hubel SW, was killed about 3:30pm Saturday when the car she was driving went out of control, tipped over and crashed near her home.
Wyoming Township police said, Mrs. SPAANSTRA, mother of six children, was driving in the 3400 block of Hubal SW when she apparently hit an embankment along the dirt road that threw her car out of control.

The auto swerved to the right and headed for a telephone pole, police said. Mrs. SPAANSTRA evidentily made a sharp left turn to avoid the pole and was thrown from the car and pinned beneath it as it tipped, police said.

Her husband, a sheet metal worker, told police Mrs. SPAANSTRA had just left home to do the family weekend shopping.

Besides her husband, Earl, Mrs. SPAANSTRA is survived by three sons and three daughters, Kenneth, Susan, Linda, Vicki, Mike and Melvin SPAANSTRA, her mother Mrs. Alice SLAUGHTER, five brothers, Carl, Dick, Robert, and Jerry all of Grand Rapids, and Ramon of California. Services will be held Tuesday afternoon 1:30 at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel. Internment Wyoming Cemetery. Members of the family will be at the chapel Sunday and Monday evenings from 7 to 9pm.
