Am looking for more information on Simon and Margaret Fox's daughter Anna Fox who on 5 Sept 1905 married Adam Baker in Kalkaska. Can not trace the family after this. Would like to know if they later divorced or what happened, he was actually Glen Baker not Adam Baker. Glen moves to Montana and remarries several times after his first time to Anna.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
karond_1

There has to be something wrong how George Pierce fits in here. At first I was very excited to find this post, but George is about the same age as his father Charles in this scenario. Yes, Charles Pierce and Phoebe are on George's marriage certificate listed above, but Charles would have to be the first man to conceive a child at age 2. I am excited that you found plausible links to your ancestor. George is my ancestor, and this Charles and Phoebe Pierce do not make sense for George and Grace. George and Grace also married around the same time as This Charles and Phoebe.
Thanks. Just wanted to point this out to any focused on George. Congrats again to your good finds.

Re: Beatrice ANDREWS (GRONER)

When I was a youngster, I, like most everyone, had a "supply store" where I went for candy, gum, baseball cards, and other necessities of childhood. My store was Andrews Grocery (in Muskegon). At the time, I had no idea who owned the store or cared. A few years ago, poring through old city directories, I looked up my favorite store. I saw it was owned by Beatrice Andrews. She was one of three different persons behind the counter and never acted like the owner. She was fairly tall, rather low profile, but in control (a necessity in a business frequented by teenagers and pre-teens). She sold the store in 1967 and it closed a year later. About 20 years ago, I saw her working in a convenient store in Muskegon Heights and said I remembered her. She was gracious and said she remembered me, too. Remarkable for seeing someone after 25 or 30 years. After 1993, she was no longer in the directory, so I'm pretty sure she was the Beatrice Andrews in question. Some of the other comments about her were interesting, especially about her coming up to Montague, an area with which I've become quite familiar in the last several years. I hope you're still on line after all these years and that my comments have relevance.

From Big Trout, Black Gold: The History of Kalkaska County, Dawn Tripplett, Editor, Kalkaska Genealogy Society: Kalkaska, MI, p. 260, 657, 661.

"Fire of an unknown origin destroyed the Maple Grove School in April 1935. The fire was discovered about midnight and an alarm was sounded, but the volunteers were unable to stop the fire. The teacher, Miss Addie McCool, reported no fire was burning in the furnace when she left the school the afternoon of the fire. The school board decided to use the Grange Hall next door to the school for the remainder of the term for the seventeen pupils who were attending the Maple Grove School. The decision on whether to rebuild was not made by the board at that time, but the general thought was that the school would be rebuilt. Insurance covered the loss of the building and part of the equipment. A stone school was later built in its place and still stands on the corner of M-72 and Golden Road."

On page 657, there is a sketch of the James and Gertrude McLean family. James McLean was the stone mason who built the Maple Grove schoolhouse.

On page 661, the is a picture of the Charles and Sarah Metzger family.

Rita
Wow thank you for all of that, I so greatly appreciate the time all of that took, and your kindness to do that for me. Thank you so much I know more about then now, Rollie Skillman was my husbands' great Uncle. His grandfather died when he was a little boy and with Rollie living so far away, we never knew much about the family.

Thank you again
karond_1

I don't know if she maybe married your robert winter. I have had a hard time trying to find out where her grave is located and such. Do you have this info or do you know if she is the same Menetah? There are not an aweful lot of ladies with that name. Any info would be great. Thank you

From the photo you included I believe it is located on the corner of Golden road and M-72. I called a man who lives in Kalkaska Co who I thought would know about the school and he said it was called Maple Grove. He gave me the following information: The school burned in 1938 or 1939 and evidently rebuilt. The school was used until about 1946 and because of the lack of students it was closed and the remaining students transferred to Excelsior school (Crawford school) and Lewis school.

Pauline Hammond

Dawn,
I want to sincerely apologize to you for Thomas Kerwin's rude reply to you. It was uncalled for and he was way out of line. I have replied to his message to tell him as much.

Don't let this keep you from getting on the message boards to seek information on your ancestors because there are many wonderful people out there who are willing and able to help without being rude to you.

Again, my sincerest apology,

Pauline Hammond

I have been doing family history for many years and have seen your messages constantly all over the place. I can't tell you how many times you have been rude and down right cruel to people and it has to stop. Who do you think you are to treat people this way? The lady made a mistake with your name by calling you Mark so what is the big deal and I wonder how many times you have done that yourself?? Such a trivial thing for you to throw such a fit over. Perhaps you should go to anger management.

It appears to me that you must get up every morning and jump on the message boards to try and beat everyone with a reply and I would say you might think about getting yourself a life!! I am sure some of what you have done has been very helpful to people but your rudeness is unnecessary and should not be tolerated any longer. If you feel you have to be so rude then stay off the message boards.

I don't believe I have ever written so rude a letter in my life but in this case I feel it is well deserved and it is time that someone called you out on your rude behavior.

Have a good day..... MARK!!

Pauline Hammond

If so I may be able to give ancestors and descendents. Best wishes, Georgina Clark nee Rainbow
