Frederick Ritter, Jr. Kalkaska.
Frederick D. Ritter, Jr., 66, owner and operator of Ritter's Hardware in Kalkaska since 1947, died early Saturday morning, May 18, at the Kalkaska Memorial Hospital. - Mr. Ritter was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and member of the Parrish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Sunrise Lions Club. Mr. Ritter served many years as a Cub Scoutmaster and Boy Scoutmaster. A veteran of World War II, he was a former counselor for the Veterans Trust Fund. - He was born in Buffalo, New York on August 20, 1918, to Frederick and Alice Bartell Ritter, Sr. On May 5, 1945, in Fenton, he was married to Marie I. Dery who survives. - Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Fred Ritter, III, of Kalkaska, William Ritter of Bellingham, Washington, and Michael Ritter of Fife Lake; five daughters, Mrs. Michael (Judith) Eagon of Traverse City, Mrs. Jeffrey (Alice) Noblis of Coronado, California, Mrs. Lynn (Nancy) Cross and Mrs. Daryl (Karen) Anderson both of Kalkaska, and Mrs. Paul (Mary) Slick of Rapid City; three sisters, Mary Alice Fitzpatrick of Buffalo, New York, Mrs. Frank (Jeanne) McBride of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, and Mrs. Jack (Dorothy) Cavanaugh of Park Ridge, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one step great grandchild. - One brother, Jack, preceded him in death. - Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Father Patrick Barrett officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. - The Rosary was recited at the church on Monday. - Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalkaska Memorial Hospital or St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. - Leader and Kalkaskian, May 23, 1985
