Thomas Gibson -Died April 14, 2002 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Tom was born May 4, 1945 in Detroit, MI, the son of Thomas A. and Florence Marie (Law) Gibson. He graduated from St. Mary's of Redford and earned his Bachelor's Degree from WMU. His life work was in education; Tom spent over 30 years with the Decatur Schools where he had served as Athletic Director, and had been a Principal of the elementary school. He was a longtime Decatur basketball coach, refereed local high school football games, and was head of the chain-gang at WMU football games. Tom owned and operated the Crooked Lake Market for 17 years. Tom was preceded in death by his father on January 7, 1999. He is survived by his children, Tom Gibson of Kentwood, MI, and Jessica Gibson of Kalamazoo; his mother, Florence Gibson of Livonia, MI; a sister, Jeanne (Tom) Olsen of Conyers, GA; three brothers, Bob (Molly) Gibson of Livonia, MI, Richard (Victoria) Gibson of Dearborn Heights, MI, and Bill (Norma) Gibson of Mattawan; several nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Betzler Funeral Homes Stadium Dr. West of 131 375-2900 where a Scripture Service will be held Thursday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Paw Paw. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or WMU Softball.
