SOLAMI, Sam F.
80 of Augusta
Died Saturday morning, January 28th, 2006 at his residence following a brief illness. Sam was born on February 10, 1925 in Freeman Spur, IL, and moved to this area for rehab after being injured during World War II. He was the son of Phillip and Antonette (Cappellano) Sollami. Sam retired in 1969 as a nursing assistant from the Battle Creek VA Medical Center after 24 years of faithful service. He was a World War II Army veteran, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid poker player and horse racing fan. Sam was a wonderful man and a very kind and caring individual especially to children. On May 15, 1991, Sam married the former Betsy A. Tilburt. She survives along with a son, Mark Sullivan of Hart, MI; and three brothers, Joseph (Virginia) Sollami, Phillip (JoAnne) Sollami and Jim Sollami, all of Herrin, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Phillip Solami; and a brother, Frank Sollami, who was Killed In Action during the Battle for Iwo Jima. At the request of Sam, there will be no visitation or service. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Augusta Chapel is in charge of all the arrangements.
