Lloyd FLAHERTY & family (in Oscoda in 1917)
I am looking for any information on Lloyd Lawrence FLAHERTY and his family. Lloyd was born in 1892 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. I have him in the census records there until 1910 (living with his parents). In 1914 there is a marriage license for Lloyd FLAHERTY to Hilda BRANDEN in Chippewa Co., Wisconsin.

At that point I lost track of Lloyd (I don't even know for certain that the marriage license was used). I did, however, find his WWI Draft registration card. On it, Lloyd Lawrence FLAHERTY is listed as living with his wife in Oscoda, Iosco Co., Michigan. His occupation is given as a civil engineer for the Fargo (?) Engineering Co. I cannot find Lloyd and his wife anywhere in either the 1920 or 1930 Census records.

Does anyone have any information which could help me break down this brick wall?

I am looking for relatives of Eliza Patrick b: 1883 (?) in Wilber Township to William Patrick and Martha Jane "Jennie" Scott. She married Burt McFall on Sept. 14, 1902 in Lupton. They had one daughter, Jennie L. McFall b: Feb. 1, 1903 in Goodar. Jennie married Charles L. Knowles on Aug. 26, 1922 in Chesaning, Saginaw County. They had three sons: Calvin B., b: 1924, Donald E., b: 8 Feb. 1927 and Kenneth A., b: 1930. Donald E. died 12 Jan. 1993 in Vestaburg, Montcalm County. I have been unable to find any relatives of the three sons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bonnie Patrick
Elora, Ontario, Canada

Thanks for your posting. I have searched the SSDI many times but the only son I was able to find was Donald E. Knowles. His last residence was 6282 M 46th Street, Vestaburg, Montcalm County, Michigan 48891. I don't have any information on whether these boys married and had children - I looked online to try and find Knowles in Vestaburg but had a hard time even finding the directory assistance web page for Vestaburg.

Maybe someone who is related to these Knowles boys will see this posting. They are my husband's third cousins!

Thanks.
Bonnie Patrick
Elora, Ontario, Canada

HALLECK Family in Tawas City 1900 census

I am researching the JOSEPH HALLECK family shown on the 1900 Iosco Co MI census, living in Tawas City:

Joseph Halleck - b. May 1853 Poland, immigrated 1885
Felkis (Phyllis) Halleck b. Jun 1864 Poland
Philif (Philip) Halleck b. May 1885 Poland
Frances Halleck b. Apr 1888 MI - m. Robert J. Smith in 1912
Lottie Halleck b. Mar 1891 MI
Eddie (Edmund) Halleck b. Feb 1893 MI
Leo Halleck b. Jul 1894 MI

If someone can put me in touch with descendants of Joseph and Phyllis, please ask him/her to contact me. Or if someone has researched this family back to Poland, please contact me.

I believe the above Joseph Halleck is related (perhaps a brother) to Joseph Adam Halleck who is also in Tawas City in 1900. That census shows Adam as "Otams Hallack".

Adam's Polish surname is KSIAZKIEWICZ (there are a number of spelling variations of this surname!)

Adam's wife, Mary Kujawa, died c1897 and the family story is that he could not care for his six children after their mother died, so some were sent to live with a HALLECK family, while others were sent to an orphanage in Alpena.

Adam's children were going to school with the HALLECK children. The teacher could not pronounce their Polish surname, so told them, "You are living with the Hallecks -- your name is HALLECK!"

We believe this is how Adam's Polish surname came to be changed to HALLECK.

My question is: Why did Joseph and Phyllis have the surname HALLECK when they also were from Poland? What was the original Polish surname?

Hope to be ordering the death certs here soon. Thank you again for what you've sent.
Gayle

I am looking for Harold Collins, possible middle initial is B. He was born abour 1914 in either Sweden or Michigan. He is the adopted son of James Collins and Lucy Withey Collins.

In the 1930 census Harol, James and Lucy are living in Dwight, Huron Co., Michigan.

In the early 1940's Iosco Co., Michigan, Harold was with them. This would have been earey WW II probably 1942 to 1943. My mom spent her summers there, she was born and raised in Alpena. Harol might have been early 20's then.

Harold later moved tot he west side of the state of Michigan, he met his birth brother.

I also believe Harold was in WW II, I did find an enlistment that fits him, this one says he was not a citizen yet, but born in Sweden, this would fits the birth places of his parents on the 1930 census. It looks like they enumerator originally had Sweden and wrote over Michigan for Harold, or could be the other way around.

We know he lived in Breedsville, Van Buren Co., Michigan but don't know exactly when.

James died in 1948 in Michigan

Lucy died in Oct 19656 in Breedsville, Van Buren Co., Michigan.

At the time of Lucy's death, in 1966, Harold was living in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Harold was married, I believe his wife's name was Geraldine, they have 3 children. They also must have lived in the Breedsville, MKichigan area, as they were members of the Breedsville Methodist Church.

Harold would be my mom's cousin, Lucy and Jim were her aunt and uncle. She has not seen Harold since the early 1940's

We are tryhing to make connection for genealogical updates.

Does anyone recovnize this family???

thanks in advance

Karen Jenter
Washtenaw Co., Michigan
Hello,

I am looking for info on my second great-grandfather Germia Saint-Pierre (later Jeremiah Saint-Peter). He was first married to Tia LePage November 4, 1884 and they had a son named Ralph born in 1886. Tia died between 1886-1891. He married Sarah E Gilbert in 1891 and had Nellia C 1892, James Germia 1898, and Lucy 1901. Sarah E had a daughter Sarah who also lived with them.

I found a funeral record for Germia in 1933 and he is on the census records living in Iosco County but his name is different which may have been due to a French accent.

Sarah Gilbert also died before 1933 because on no record of her between 1920-1933 (she is not on the 1930 census).

I am looking for obits or death records of Tia, Germia, and Sarah. If anyone is able to help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,
Can someone tell me when I have found someone on 1880 census in "East Tawas, Iosco, Michigan" is this East Tawas TOWNSHIP in Iosco County or East Tawas VILLAGE in Baldwin Township, Iosco County?
Some websites have 3 East Tawas places in MI. One is a village in Baldwin TWP and one is a Township in Iosco County but it seems to say there is a East Tawas Township in Wilbur Township too - all are in Iosco County.
I am confused.- Mary

You can contact the Iosco County Clerks office and they will give you instructions on how to get a copy of the marriage record. The last time I got one, I had to mail a money order along with the request. It was $5 but that was a couple of years ago.

I am looking for information on marriage of Nestor Anderson to Emma Haglund on June 5 1906. It appears that Nestor's Finnish name was Wiinikka. I can not make out his mothers name. Emma died Sept 21 1906. She gave birth to Carl R Haglund on September 1 1906. Carl died in 1970 and is buried in Pinecrest cemetery. Index shows Iosco Gazzette had notice of both marriage and death. If anyone has birth certificate for Carl or death certificate or obit for Emma would appricate information. Emma was the daughter of Otto Haglund.

Looking for any information on Obuchowski/Obuchowska/Sienkiewicz families in the Waters, St. Helen, Roscommon, Michigan areas from about 1892 until about 1898. Grandfather Joseph Thomas OBUCHOWSKI and wife, Lucille SIENKIEWICZ OBUCHOWSKI relocated to the area after 1892 when they married in Saginaw, Michigan. Son Peter OBUCHOWSKI born 1893 in St. Helen and baptized in Roscommon, Michigan. Daughter Ollie Alexandria or Alexandria Ollie born in Waters, Michigan 1895. Having a difficult time locating any information on Obuchowski or Sienkiewicz in the area. Also looking for connection to a Justina Obuchowska who may have also been in the area during this time. Understand that Joseph was a miner and not sure if there were any mines in these areas where he may have worked. Any assistance greatly appreciated.
