Thank you, Alicia. I do have that. I'm hoping to find someone who may be related who could confirm his mother's name and tell me more of the family. On his DC she is listed as Stina Liisa rather than Stina Kaisa and on her DC there is no birthdate to help confirm and there are no relatives listed.

Most if not all of this info is at the Mich Tech University library. Not many of them left there but all of the work, business and immigration records are there. My grandmother and grandfather were both torreano's. My grandmother(Johanna) came from San Martino but we do not know the village where my grandfather came from. I have a cousin in Oregon who has done a lot of history on our family. He has all of the detailed info. Any way I can help, let me know. f_torreano@yahoo.com

Here is something I posted elsewhere ... although it doesn't directly answer your question, it might provide some interesting tidbits ...

Hello,

I am descended from John and Fannie (Frances/Francesca) Sunich. Their daughter Frances had a daughter Oresa who had a son Clayton who is my father. This is what I know of their heritage:

John Sunich (Zunich) was an Austrian Catholic who married Fannie Graylick/Graylich who was a Jewish girl from a small village in the area near Austria now known as Slovenia. Fannie converted to Catholicism and completely abandoned the practice of Judaism. As far as I know, the only daughter who knew of this was Frances, who told my grandmother. Most of the children were devout Catholics and the girls remained active in the Slovenian Society (I don't know if that is exactly what it is called). My grandmother married a Jewish man although they were never particularly active in any faith. As far as I know, I am the only actively (religiously) Jewish descendant of theirs, as my father married a Jewish woman.

I never knew they had 11 children ... I know of 8 -- Ann (whose name was actually Clarice Anna), Sophie (Sophia), Gayla (atually Angelica), Pauline, Frances (Francesca Johanna)- who was my great-grandmother, Mary (who had MS and died possibly of Scarlet Fever), another deceased boy whose name I don't know, and John Jr. I know a few of their childrens' names ... Oresa, Richard, and Ed.

I can't imagine there being another John and Fannie Sunich in Calumet, so this must be them. I would love to hear what you know. If possible, could you let me know?
I am in on the tail end of this dialogue, forgive me. I attended Sunday school at the Norwegian Lutheran Church on 7th Street in Calument in the late 1950s, early 1960s with Eric Opland. Eric was a year or two older than I was, thus his birth would have been 1951 or 1952. My mother was acquainted with Eric's mother. My older sister still resides in the area and is quite familiar with the church, its records and its early members. You may email me privately with your request. I will forward your request on to my sister. family.names@gmail.com. Gary

Hi,
I was looking for another Couture family some time ago and I did come across Noel and Odile in Grant Township, Michigan. I found a couple of births and marriages in that area. The family must have gone back and forth to Canada (I assume). There seems to be a gap between the births of the children.
I found the marriage of Daniel Fisher, age 25 and Delia Couture, age 16, of Benton TWP, MI, she was born in Cheboygan, MI. I didn't see her birth record in their county records or I could have missed it. You may want to try the Church records in Cheboygan and see if you can locate a baptismal record.
Thanks for posting this info on the Pichette family, Alicia. I am now researching this branch of my family, and wondered if you have found any other info on the other Pichette children, who they married or census info, births or deaths? I did not find a birth record for Zeferina, as I did for her siblings, so this is helpful to know her married name and childrens' names. I am researching her Mother, Elidas' family line (Archambeau/Archambault).
Thanks, Sue

It would really help me if someone could check their records about John Olof och Hiltas daughter Lydia Sophia born 10th of april 1913. Guess she was baptized quite soon after her birth. Who were her godparents?

Her parents died when she was young and she had to stay with a mr erikson and his family. Mr eriksons wife died young and he remariired a widow with five children and the decided adrienne had to move to another family again. So she did´nt have any answers about the johnson family or the järvi family.

Ive been locking for my grandfathers cousins for some years now. The history is following. John Olof Johnson b.20/12 1884 in Sweden moved around 1910 to Hancock. He died there 26/12 1912 leaving a widow and one son Joh(a)n Sigurd b. 24/10 1910. four months after John Olofs death a daughter is born Lydia Sophia (b. 10/4 1913).

The familys destiny is unknown for me, but a couple of days ago I found following information.

-John Olofs widows first name was "Hilta" (her maiden name is unknown)
-Joh(a)n Sigurd was baptized on new year's day January 1st, 1911 in Hancock.
-Joh(a)n Sigurds godparents were Peter and Liinu Järvi and Jacob and Maggie Vuopio.

- Ive found Jacob Wuopio he was born in sweden 1880 and married 18/9 1909 to Kreeta B. Hamalainen(b. 1883)in Calumet, Houghton, Michigan. In the census 1930 (Hancock) one can read:
Jacob Wuopio 49 born in Sweden
Margaret Wuopio 48 born in Finland
son Reynold Wuopio 14
daughter Adrienne Wuopio 13

is it possible to find/identify Hilta and the children based on the mentioned information? Godparents should be close to the family, hopefullt they keept contackt after John sr. death.

Were did Peter and Liinu Järvi live? children?

//Fredrik in Sweden
Greetings!
I am just beginning my search for information on my grandfather, Mathew Kononen. He married my grandmother, Hilda Johnson (Johanson at Ellis Isle) Michigan. My mother was born in Detroit in 1929, and Grandfather died March 5, 1939 in San Francisco, apparently from an accident while on duty with the Border Patrol (but I cannot find anything about that). He is buried at the Presidio. I attached the only picture my mother has of him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to contact me directly at rcwoodard@energysolutions.com Thanks, Rob
