I am interested in corresponding with other descendents of Orphan Train Riders to Houghton, MI. In an affadavit, Elizabeth Harnett of Franklin Mine states that she knew my grandfather, William James McCarthy and six other boys and girls who were brought as orphans to Franklin Mine from New York. New York Foundling Home confirms that my grandfather was sent by train to Franklin Mine in July of 1897. Census records of 1900 in Franklin and surrounding areas show adopted sons or daughters( age 2 to 10) of Sullivan, Lamere, Madajewski, McCarthy(other than my grandfather), Copehurst and Schumaker families.
