Thanks. I've spent many hours looking at the MI/USGenWebsite. I did find a class picture of Dawson Henvey in elementary school but no clues on the Dawsons or Thomas Henvey. I'm at a standstill until I can find out where they were from originally and when they arrived.

Janice

Thank you for the quick reply and in particular, the exact locations of the Hogan gravesites. Dawson Henvey was my grandfather. Who is the second John Hogan on your list? Is there any information when Thomas Henvey and the Dawsons arrived in the Hillsdale area? What is the relationship among the Dawsons? Where exactly in Ireland and England did they originate from? Julia Henvey is also an enigma. Who were the fathers of her children- Rose Marie Madden and Leo Thomas Hogan? Leo is listed on the 1900-1920 Censuses as living with his grandparents Mary and John Hogan whereas, Rose Marie is listed in the 1900-1910 ones. So where is Julia?

I am researching THOMAS HENVEY (Ireland) who died Feb. 17, 1857 at age 40 and is buried in Hillsdale, MI. He had two children, John and Julia Henvey with MARY DAWSON (ENGLAND). She is listed in the 1860 census as MARY HENDRY. Also, living with her are the two children, WILLIAM DAWSON age 64, and MICHAEL DAWSON age 16. Mary later married JOHN HOGAN (Ireland) on February 18, 1864 and had 4 more daughters. Any information on THOMAS and JULIA HENVEY, as well as MARY, ANN, WILLIAM, and MICHAEL DAWSON will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I suppose it's been long since you posted this, but I'm not too sure that Archibald died in that time. Or at that place to be precise. If this is the same Archibald Wurts, then he came to Mexico and raised a family here. I happen to be his great-granddaughter, if this IS the same Archibald. he died around 1975 or more. Please get back to me, thanks.

When you send your request to the Hillsdale County Courthouse for the Death Certificates, make sure you put the book number and page number on your request. It makes it easier for them to respond to your request. I went to the courthouse and got the dates you are wanting. Cornelia Tabor Fenton Book 1941 Page 59, Date of Death: 27 Feb 1941......Hallet E Fenton Book 1934 Page 148, Death Date: 1 Mar 1934.....H Frank Smith Book 1960 Page 26, Death Date: 25 Jan 1960, Wife listed on his death certificate was Minnie Smith. H Frank Smith married a second time. Married a Mrs. Minnie May Squire, it was her 3rd marriage. They married 17 Nov 1956, Hillsdale Michigan. She filed for divorce from H Frank on 19 Nov 1957. I viewed the Divorce Record. If the divorce was final in 1958.....why is she listed as his wife on his death certificate?......As for Caddie Z Fenton Smith. no death certificate on file at the Hillsdale County Courthouse. The only records they have for Caddie, is her birth in 1882 and her marriage to H Frank Smith in 1903.

My 3rd grandfather is Dennis Dwyer and his brother John Dwyer married Laura Petrie and had three children Lucy, Lottie, and John B Dwyer II. Starting with this John and including him all the men in this family have been effected by a muscular disease, for the last three generations. I was wondering if you knew if any one else in the Petrie family that was living or died of with this debilitating disease. I have found through my research that Neal Petrie has on his death certificate severe muscular atrophy as cause of death.
Also another Eben Petrie was not able to be drafted in the war because of stiff leg and arms. These two men as far as I can determine are blood related and I would like to know where this families origin is from. Thank you for any information you may have.

Respectfully

Michelle Ann Dwyer Miron
I was going to suggest contacting the cemetery, but can't seem to find any contact information for the cemetery online. I did however find a listing for Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville. They may be able to provide you a contact for the cemetery, or maybe even handled the services for the people whose death dates you are looking for.

http://www.eaglefuneralhomes.com/locations#jonesville
Eagle is located at 109 East St., Jonesville, phone (517) 849-9191. There is a link on their page to an email address of Hillsdale@eaglefuneralhomes.com

Also consider searching under alternate spellings: Hammill could be Hamel, Hammel, etc. Cousino - maybe Cosino, or Cousineau even? An "o" at the end of a name could be misread by a transcriber as an "s".

FamilySearch.org has a couple of places you might try searching: Michigan Marriages 1822-1995 and Michigan, County Marriages 1820-1935

I’m not related to any member of this family.

This is your problem -

Facts you should know about the early census records –

All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

1850 -
Name: James C Huston
Age: 25
Birth Year: abt 1825
Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Home in 1850: Unity, Columbiana, Ohio
Gender: Male

James C Huston 25, PA - carpenter
Caroline Huston 20, OH

1840 - James would be 14/15 and since he was not the head of the house; he will not be listed.

WHERE did James die = state & yr???

OHIO Vital Records -
Prior to September 7, 1949, marriages were record at the county probate courts as each county was formed. At that time, an index of all Ohio marriages was not maintained. It was not until 1949, that a statewide index of marriages that occurred in Ohio was created at the state level with the Ohio Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics. While the state Office of Vital Statistics maintains indexes of all marriages, the county probate courts where the married couples applied for their license is where the official marriage certificate resides.

Ohio law established the Bureau of Vital Statistics on December 20, 1908.
Diane,

So thoughtful of you, thank you.
I too am not part of the family or tree. I was working on putting the publication names on all the 2440 old newspapers that are on Google News Archive when I started looking at all the stories in the newspapers. 99% of them were not highlighted so they would never be picked up in a search so I started documenting them and finding family trees (homes) for the item. Most of them are easy to do because they have lots of family names and dates but some like this one has too little information to find a family tree right away. I have folders where I kept the NotePad text files, screen prints, and links of the items I find and one folder is titled "FOUND" and the other is "NO LUCK". I have 800+ in "Found" and only a handful in "No Luck".
I started writing a blog about the newspaper project and the items that I work on. You might want to take a look at it. http://newspaperproject2012.wordpress.com/

I will put the information you sent me into her tree and file and see if I can find a real tree for her with the new info.

When I can't find a family tree right away for the item I create a tree using the info in the item and that way I can sometimes find a tree for the person. The tree may be a few branches removed but if it is part of the family then my job is done. I send the info to all the family trees I find and have had some amazing replies.

Thank you for helping me with this little newspaper item maybe you will be the one who finds a tree (home) for her.

In the course of looking for her tree I found several other items related to the story and was able to connect with family tree owners of the people who lead this young woman to her death. That of course is a whole other story.

Thanks.
Take Care.
Jose

PS. I put you on her tree as guest so you can see what I have found out about her.
libra2458,

Are you trying to tell me that she is part of your family tree?

If she is that is great I can move her file from the "NO LUCK" folder to the "FOUND" folder.

Please let me know.
Thank You.
Jose
Sharon,

The information came from http://www.rootsweb.com/~miisabel/lincolncem.html

Jones, Jefferson died 12-21-1887 aged 79 years 1 mo 16 days. Laura, wife of J. Jones, died Jan 19, 1887 ages 73 yrs 9 mo and 6 days. Their is a footnote that makes no sense to me This mother in the ground illegible.

Do not know what that means? Probably need to follow up with the cemetery. I have a picture of the tombstone. If you would like a copy.
