"SELF INFLICTED WOUND FATAL TO VANDERVEST - Watersmeet, Oct 28 - Anton Vandervest, 38, who shot himself through the head yesterday morning in the presence of his wife at his home six miles west of here, on the west branch of the Ontonagon river, died yesterday afternoon at 1:40 o'clock.
He shot himself with a .32 calibre rifle back of the right ear, the bullet emerging through the top of the head, The shooting occurred at 2:50 a.m. Vandervest had come home at midnight. His first shot missed, lodging in the ceiling. The Sheriff Kenneth MacFarlane and Deputies Ben Novak and George Sparapant. . ." Thursday, October 28, 1937
