Hi my name is Megan
Christensen. Alma was my great grandmother, and Anna my great, great grandmother. I would love to know more about them both. My grandfather
Berton (Alma and Han's son) was born in
Williams Minn. 1912. He had an older brtoher named John, and younger siblings in order Arthur, Leonard,
Fordyce, Robert and Ruby( the only child born in
Flint MI). Hans was born in
Grant MI and farmed there untill he ran off to fight in the Spanish/American war. When he returend from war he had moved to
Williams Minn. Hans and Alma lost their family farm to back taxes in WilliamsMinn. about 1926 for $430. This is when they packed up and moved to
Flint. When they arrived they lived in a boarding room with Anna. Hans helped built Central High School in
Flint. Then moved to a house on
Birkley St. and was employed by GM. My grandfather
Burton during the depression was in the CCC planting trees near
Newberry MI. When he returned he was also employed by GM. He was involved in the Great Sit down strike of 1936-37. He later started a special day called White shirt day in 1947 celebrated on feb 11 (anniversity of end of strike). YOu can research this more on the UAW local 598 webpage or UAW region 1C webpage. There is now a memorial located in
Flint of the strike. on March 29 1938
