I would like to talk to you about this family. I believe the Benjamin F. Lee you are looking for was the brother of my gg-grandmother, Barbara Lee of Bedford Co, PA. She married John Cook and moved to Tolono, Champaign Co, IL in 1866. Both Barbara and Benjamin are found on the 1850 census in Bedford Co living with their sister, Matilda (Lee) Dunkle, wife of Jacob Dunkle.
I might have a theory as to how Benjamin ended up in Genesee Co as well. I noticed someone had posted a message about a Hewitt family they had traced back to Stonington, CT. The brother of John Cook, one Henry Cook was married to a woman named Hewitt who was descended from this same Hewitt family. Henry went to Christian Co, IL in 1865 from Mercer Co, PA where he had lived with his wife's Hewitt family and had been ostracized by his father, Ezekiel Cook. It seems likely that Benjamin may have moved to Genesee Co where he knew some extended family. (very extended, but they probably knew about one another). John had visited his brother, Henry in IL in 1865 and moved his family to Champaign Co, IL in 1866.
So...it would have been Benjamin's sister's brother-in-law's wife's family, the Hewitts who lived in Genesee Co.
Anyway, these Lee siblings were the children of George Lee and Mary Wertz of Cumberland Valley Twp., Bedford Co, PA.
