I am looking for information on the conviction of George Alexander Peterson for bank embezzlement. The bank he worked for was in Iron Mountain according to family history. We know he was convicted and went to jail but we have no dates or any other information on this event. How do I find this out? This would have been sometime after 1930 and most likely before 1950.

I am looking for information on Mary Louisa Beckstrom, married to Alfred Johnson. Both Mary and Alfred were born in Sweden. Mary immigrated in 1886 and we're not sure when Alfred immigrated. They had one child, Agnes Johnson in November 184. Mary was listed as a seamstress in the 1910 census and my grandmother said she moved into a small house in their backyard in Iron Mountain toward the end of her life. Agnes married Edwin Peterson of Iron Mountain and the couple had 2 children, Harold in 1914 and Irene in 1918.

I am looking for any information on the death of Alfred Johnson. He died between 1894 and 1900. Even a more specific date would help greatly.

I am also looking for any obituary or death information about Mary. My grandmother thinks she died in 1925 or 1926.

I don't know if Mary had any relatives in the area or if she immigrated alone from Sweden. If anyone knows of any other Beckstroms in the area that she was related to please let me know as well!

Thank you!

I have a Charles C Johnson Unless the C is wrong, who was born in Sweden and imm in 1872-73. He has a confusing dob from 1855 Dec on most records to calculating out some that would put him in 1853 or 1857. He married Carrie his wife in 1882 her maiden name according to forms was Anderson who was born Oct 9, 1865 and died in Wisconsin 4-16-1935. I do not know Charles brothers or sisters so one of their ancestors who see this needs to contact me. I can verify his children. I don't know if he died in Michigan or Wisconsin. They did divorce if I have the right couple with minor child Carl. If your Charles lived with some of the daughters, I might have a match. That is how I located Carrie with matching the children. Now Carrie on the 1930 census in WI, said she was a widow. Unless it was something to say instead of divorce, it would mean that Charles died before 1935. I can not believe with that many kids and grand and gr grand children there is not more people looking for leads to this section of the family? Email me at rfaulkner06@netzero.com if you have info, since I am not on here that often. Thank you. RF

James Henry McKenna (1873-1941), son of Patrick and Mary (Lally), married Della Surprise (1873-1963). They had four children:

Irene
Adris
Myrle
Philip

You have a cousin, Mary Pollard, in the Spokane area, who is descended from Myrle. You might wish to be in contact with her about sharing information and photos.

I believe that I had some contact with your father a few years back. I believe that Irene or your father returned to the McKenna surname.

If you would e-mail me at Margaret173@aol.com, I can ask Mary to contact you. I provided her and her mother with a CD of much of the material I have collected over the last 18 years.
According to his tombstone in the Negaunee Cemetery Patrick McKenna, married to Sarah Stack, was born c. 1800 (died May 20, 1865, age 65).

His son, Patrick married to Mary Lally, and who lived in Quinnesec has for his birthday in the 1900 census "March 1835," and his obituary of January 26, 1905 said that he was 69 (thus turning 70 in March), so birth year again 1835.

Hope this helps.

How are you related?
Arthur Bishop - Foster City? Death

I am trying to track down a GGGrand Father who I believe died in Foster City or somewhere in Dickinson County. I am looking for Arthur Bishop who was born in 1855 in Wisconsin or possibly Illinois. His son Claud Bishop lived in Foster City. Claud was married to Annie DuFrense and is burried in the Foster City Cemetery. I believe I found Arthur Bishop on the 1900 Census living in Breen Township and his is living in a boarding house....that is the last thing I have found on him, so I am thinking he died in Dickinson County. I am not able to make it to Iron Mountain to look thru death records (nor do I know if Michigan allows this as Wisconsin does) so I am hoping someone could check to see if there is a death for Arthur Bishop sometime in the early 1900's or possibly a death notice in the newspaper. I appreciate you help as this is my last brick wall!!

Michael Bishop
Rhinelander, Wisconsin

I'm new to genealogy and are trying to track Grandpa's siblings who left Sweden to a new life in USA. Oldest sister Johanna Svenson, (may be spelled Svenson), born 24 August 1875 She did leave Almundsryd, Sweden, via Gothenburg and the ship SS Bergensfjord from Krsitiania, Norway, and arrived to New York 26 Dec,1917. She made the trip with her 5 boys, Ragnar (13 years old), Karl (11), Sven (9), Erik (7) and Knut (5) with destination Foster City, MI. Probably her husband already lived there, as I can't find any husband at the passenger list. We don't have a confirmed name of her husband but we think it might be Gustav, shortened to Gus. She still lived there in the area in laste 40ies or early fifties as her brother from Iowa did visit at least once according to cousin in MN. Any help would be great.
Anders Stromback, Sweden

I believe I descend from Patrick's second son, James. James would be my g-grandfather. James married Marie (I think that's her first name) Surprise, who had my grandmother, Irene, who then had my father, James. The only birthdate I'm certain of is my father's, which is 1925. Both the McKennas and the Suprises can be found in the Quinnesec Cemetary.

Hi,

Looking to find any information available on family members with the surname Hollo and Stefan (Hungarian decent). Particularly, they worked in the Iron Mountain mines anywhere during 1886 - 1940

Thanks

Oh okay, thank you. It's actually two different surnames. My grandmothers family worked in the mines - her maiden name is Hollo and my grandfathers family worked in the mines as well and his surname is Stefan. Both of Hungarian decent.

Thanks for responding. I think the issue is that they only worked up at the Copper mines in the U.P - Michigan. But, they resided in the lower peninsula - Stefans in particular.

thanks for the link...I hadn't downloaded the latest version of IE & stopped using Firefox 2 updates ago when it started giving my stodgy old computer a belly-ache so perhaps that's why all I was getting at this site was the somewhat garbled transcript.

Now that I've done the IE upgrade I can look at the book myself. Thanks for the heads-up on what should have been the obvious as in upgrade IE.

Being from New England, I don't have access to the book "History of the Diocese of Sault Ste, Marie and Marquette" By Antoine Ivan Rezek which contains information about the Rev. Raphael CAVVICHI whom I'm researching.

Rev. Raphael CAVICCHI was the first pastor of the Holy Rosary Church, Vulcan, 1890-1894 and the pastor of of St. Barbara, Vulcan from 1899-1906.

He died by drowning in 1906 in Norway, the result of a fishing accident & is buried in the Norway Cemetery.

I need a look-up and ideally a scan of what I think must be a photo of Rev. CAVICCHI. The caption, which is a garbled transcription on the Internet Archives site, mentions his birthplace in Italy which is a vital bit of information I've been hunting for.

According to what I found at Internet Archives, the information I am requesting is located on page 299 of the book "History of the Diocese of Sault Ste, Marie and Marquette".

Can anyone do this look-up for me?

Thanks in advance.

I am just starting out looking at an individual in Dickinson Co and found the below web site last night. One of the databases this searches is MI Death Records 1897 - 1902 which are digitized.

I was able to find the DC for my person so maybe, if your 2nd great grandfather died 1920 or before, you'll also be able to find his DC.

http://seekingmichigan.org/

http://haldigitalcollections.cdmhost.com/seeking_michigan/se...

I did find that to find my person I had to use the advanced search (second link above) as the general search on the home page produced no results.

Good Luck.

Glad you found someone.

I really wish more locations would digitize things like vital records so that those of us living in another part of the US or elswhere would have an easier time accessing the information.

BTW....don't forget that the LDS is in the process of digitizing the holdings of their Family History Library out in Salt Lake City.

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

It's always worth a try to check what is already available on the Pilot site. Some of the databases are indexed so can be more useful than the not yet indexed databases.

More goes on the site regularly so what wasn't there last month could very well be there this month. always good to run a search over if you didn't find anything the first time through.

It's free but you will have to install Flash if you don't already have it on your computer.

Good Luck

Wa-hoo for you....don't you just LOVE the rush and feeling of satisfaction you get when you finally find a tidbit you've been digging for?? I know I do.

DuFrense.........this sounds French Canadian. I don't know if you noticed but the Pilot site also has all the Répertoire of Québec....these were the official vital records of Québec from the 1600's up into the 20th century.

As of now, they aren't indexed on the Pilot site but if you were to get into your Fre-Can branch, I'd suggest a free trial @ Ancestry so you could access the Drouin aka Répertoire of Québec and get your footing as to just where in Québec you needed to look & from there you might be able to utilize the free Pilot site.

Ancestry has what are known as the Drouin. In the 1930's & 1940's, the Drouin Institute of Montreal went out and filmed all the surviving répertoire of Québec at the various parishes.

I did say that the répertoire were the official vital records and because of this, the parishes were required to make two copies. One copy was kept at the parish BUT the other copy was for the government and I've found that as one gets into the 1700's & 1600's the government copies which were apparently kept in better enviromental conditions are more legible. Then, too, since the second copy was for the government, I've also found the penmanship to often be better than the copy retained at the parish.

The copies of the Québec répertoire that you find at the LDS Pilot site are the government copies and were filmed by the LDS in the 1970's & 1980's so also have the advantage of technologial advances over the filmings done by the Drouin as well as being of the second, government copy.

Have fun with your hunts.
