IRON MOUNTAIN — Stanley Galuszka, 76, of East Breen Ave., Kingsford, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Stanley was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Chicago.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
For 40 years, Stanley had resided in Foster Care Homes and for the past 23 years he had been a resident of Elaine’s Haven House. He never received a visitor throughout those many years, but he did find the family he longed for and that was at Elaine’s. When Elaine’s daughter, Christy, was tiny, he would walk her to the bus stop for school.
Stanley enjoyed all the Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthday and all the various parties that all those at the home participated in with presents, cakes and special meals for each occasion.
He worked around the kitchen whether it was making sandwiches or doing dishes. He didn’t complain, but had that little smile always on his face.
In the latter years, he silently endured heart disease and emphysema. He and the other vets enjoyed their once-a-year dinner at the Elks Lodge No. 700 in honor of their war time service. He loved going out to eat.
Stanley called Haven House his family and is survived by Elaine, Bob, Christy, Stella, Muriel, Misty, Nilo, Steve, Matt, Conrad, Stan, Robert, John, Larry, Donald, Frankie and David. He will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
NOTE: I didn't know Stanley personally... I read about 1000 obits a week and just ran across this one this evening and KNEW I had to post it to a website, hoping someone would be touched the same way I was when I read it. Stanley seemed like a very special person... God bless him and the caring folks in his life.
