Since we live in Denmark, I am running into a brick wall trying to run down my husband's genealogy on the maternal side.

We know they came from Norway and Sweden, but cannot determine the localities closer than that and any help or advice is most welcome.

We know that my husband's mother was Eunice Peterson, b. June 18, 1922, d. 1943. Her father was 2nd generation Norwegian and her mother, b. 1880, immigrated from Sweden in 1906.

From her marriage license (1938) we know that Eunice's father, George Peterson, was then deceased and her mother, Edith Peterson, then living in Gary, Indiana, had the maiden name Uhrbom. George and Edith were married October 8, 1907 in Escanaba. There is some confusion about whether her mother's given name is Edith, Eda or Ida. (In Swedish, both Ida and Eda sound much like "Edith".)

In the 1930 Census, Edith Peterson, then living in MI, was the head of household with several children, among them, Eunice, 8 years old. So, we know that George Peterson died before 1930.

In the 1920 Census, George Peterson living in Michigan with his wife and four of the children Edith had living with her in 1930. Her name is here spelled "Eda".

On George's 1918 W.W.I draft registration in Escanaba, he is a farmer living in Ford River and his wife is Ida Sofia -- this middle name matches with other information we have. The Petersons lived in places on the Upper Peninsula -- Wells, Bark River, Ford River.

George's father was Ole [Olea - Ola] Peterson b. August 1832 and immigrated from Norway in 1873 and his mother Mary, b. December, 1844 in Norway, married Ole in 1864. In 1880, they were living in Bark River.

I'm not related.

US census records do not state the city, town or village where a person was born - only the state or country.
