Maple Rapids
Went to be with the Lord , January 22, 2004 at the age of 74. She was born November 28, 1929 in Maple Rapids, the daughter of Dr. Dee and Mary (Ostrom) Allen, born in the same house that she was living in when she passed away. Virginia was a graduate of Maple Rapids High School, Albion College, Bronson Methodist School of Nursing and Central Michigan University. She was a R.N. and served as school nurse for Kalamazoo Schools for 38 years. Virginia had many interests and was a member of the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church, the D.A.R., a lifetime member of the O. E. S., Chapter #69 of Elsie, was the Past President of Huntley National Association and Past President of Michigan Nursing Association and also traveled to China and Australia under an ambassadorship program sponsored by the Kalamazoo School system. She is survived by her brother, Donald (Nancy) Allen of Maple Rapids, brother in law, John D. Meier of Swartz Creek, niece, Brenda Simmons of St. Johns, nephews, Mark Allen of Maple Rapids, Stephen Allen of Vanderbilt, Randy Meier of Traverse City, Dan Meier of White Lake Twp., and Ron Meier of Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy Meier. Services will be held at the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church, Monday, January 26, 2004 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Martin Cobb officiating. Burial at Sowle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Abbott Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 25, 2004 . Memorials may be made to the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church fund for a Handicap Accessible Ramp.
