Does anyone have access to a Methodist Church resource in Clinton County, or country directories, that might verify that Rev. William Henry Bakewell served as a minister in the Olive Township area c.1884?
Rev. Bakewell was a minister with the Wesleyan-Methodist and Methodist-Protestant denominations and served in ministries all over southern Michigan. According to Michigan marriage records, he married Margaret Palmer 11 Feb. 1884 in Olive Township, by Rev. J. W. Delong. Rev. Bakewell then gave his residence as Olive Township. Rev. Bakewell had two previous marriages, both ending with the deaths of his spouses.
I believe Margaret Palmer was the widow of Shubel Palmer who was a farmer in Riley Township. If so, her maiden name was Cummins or Cummings and she was the daughter of William Cummins. The Palmers lived in Eaton County before 1860 and were the parents of 12 children.
If anyone can help me locate Rev. Bakewell I would be most appreciative. He died in Livingston County at the home of his daughter in 1899. I believe Margaret died in Shiawassee County where some of her children lived, in 1907.
