Iisak Wiita
We are working on our family tree and are missing an American branch. My g-grandfather Iisak/Isak/Isac Wiita immigrated to northern Michigan in 1898 followed two years later by two sons, Josef/Joseph and Nikodemus. Iisak's daughter, my grandmother, remained in Finland. Nikodemus returned to Finland several years later.
Isak and Joseph do appear in the 1910 and 1920 census living on Drummond Island and Joseph was shown to be living in the Chassel area in 1930. I have looked through all cemetary sites available to find Iisak's burial site and date of death without success. We believe he died some time in the early 30's and would be interested in confirming this information. To date, Michigan vital statistics have not been able to locate the informtion.
I did find Josef's burial site and date of death. From the census it seems that he was married to Hilma had a large family which they raised in the Chassel area.
In my search for another family member I came across an obiturary on Frank Maki posted by Alicia on this site. The mourners (listed as step-children, one being Wayne Wiita) had the same names as Josef's family listed in the census. Did Hilma remarry after Josef's death??
These are some of the mysteries I have encountered in my genealogy search. I'd like to hear from anyone that may have information on this branch of my family to fill in the missing pieces.
